You could try sending something to compressor directly from FCP (make sure it is not open at that point). Does Compressor give you any indication what's going on with your ghost batch ( progress bar moving etc.)? Can you just let it finish or is it hung?by nicknasty - Café LA Re: DVD burning - 15 years agoIts a lot better than crayon + poor handwritingby nicknasty - Café LA Re: EX1 HD project and SD export - 15 years agoHi Roughneck, Are you sure you want to do 4:3?? You said it's for continuity but change is inevitable at some point. You're making life really difficult just to achieve vintage and awkward look for your project. Most of your viewers will probably see it boxed in their 16:9 screens. Spending hours for something like that seems counterintuitive.by nicknasty - Café LA Re: DVD burning - 15 years agoYou probably ARE out of warranty. Mac burners are really bad and seem to get worse when they get old. Had 4, none of them met the quality required to burn DVD masters for duplication. Now using LaCie Lightscribe. It's fast and takes care of pro-looking labels as well. Will recommend!by nicknasty - Café LA Re: e-mailing fcp ref files - 15 years agoHow about using that (select file) -> (cmd i, get info) -> Open with (select Final Cut Pro). Does that work??by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Capture Problems - 15 years agoNO, re-installing should be your last resort, not the first thing to try. Troubleshoot first!! You're sure you followed instructions and didn't throw anything necessary away when trashing preferences?by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Capture Problems - 15 years agoFCP crashing on startup is obviously the bigger concern. Try unplugging all peripherals and re-boot. Try opening an old FCP project by double clicking its icon. Check your fonts and hard drives. Worst case: re-install Mac OS and FCP TC breaks are common when using Z1u in HDV mode. It happens almost every time you use rec/stop. From preferences, disable (abort on TC break). If you are in serioby nicknasty - Café LA Re: OT: How do you know when RAM is going bad? - 15 years agoIf you think faulty RAM is the problem (which it very unlikely), you can try this:by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Blackmagic Intensity Pro card info help needed... - 15 years agoAs mentioned, I was able to get playback with (self-made graphic) footage but didn't have any real - camera originated - XDCam 1080P 30 stuff to play around with. Yeah, Intensity pro does work with XDCam EX footage, at least with sequence set to "XD Cam EX 720P25 / (35 Mb/s VBR) " and playing 720P footage originating from EX1 camera. Can not confirm if this hold true also with 1080Pby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Blackmagic Intensity Pro card info help needed... - 15 years agoNot sure if you can totally mismatch sequence and video output settings but at least this combo works. For basic monitoring, it should be OK.by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Export for net downloading - 15 years agoJeff and Strypes; PLS read my post again. I said "IS the ONLY way" so you must have misunderstood what I wrote. (ok, not completely true since you can also Save as QT or Export to Compressor but the idea is the same.. without additional HW like deck, I/O board etc , you need to save your edit as digital file...using quicktime. This process will not de-grade your project and is essentialby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Rendering issue and stuff.... - 15 years agoI've had a lot of problems with Magic Bullet. One way to deal with the problem is to print out self-contained Quicktimes with MB filters applied and then re-import and apply the rest of the effects/filters on top of readily effected video source. It is too easy to loose a big chunk of rendered timeline with minor last-minute adjustments. With tight deadlines this can be catastrophic. You canby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Blackmagic Intensity Pro card info help needed... - 15 years agoGood luck with that back. Did the test using bars&tones with some motion animation... YES, I am able to get the picture out when sequence preset is XDCam HD422 1080P30 and video output is set to Intensity HDTV 1080i 59.94 (1920x1080). Not sure if this totally OK but at least for any practical purposes, it WILL display what you are editing on a big screen without rendering or playback -by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Export for net downloading - 15 years agomichael rouse Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks for that...I got lost in Compressor, but > I'll try again...and I'm told that using QT > conversion produces inferior product No it does not. QT conversion is the golden standard and it is the only way to export anything out of FCP in digital format (at least without additional hardware). Yoby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Blackmagic Intensity Pro card info help needed... - 15 years agoI have Intensity Pro. If you got a 2 sec clip to download I am able to verify if it works or notby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Export for net downloading - 15 years agoYeah... Drop it to Compressor. Feel free to play around with it. Just remember that you really need to pay attention to your audio settings in order to keep the file size compact. 32Khz, mono is suitable for almost everything...by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Render is very slow - 15 years agoesata, ram and cores aside, FCP still struggles with non-standard sequence settings/ footage. What do you mean by overlaying 240x320?? Is your sequence DV NTSC but you bring in clips with reduced resolution and blow them up? If you need to use 240x320 in your project, I would uprez/convert them first to ("fcp native" DV or preferably 8 bit. Conversion speed is around 1:1 with Visualhuby nicknasty - Café LA Re: OT? Does anyone know how to achieve this? - 15 years agografixjoe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I would like to see a link to one someone here has > done correctly. That would be helpful. well, here you are: This took around 3 min to create. Real-world web design with flash might take a bit longer. Cheersby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Faster way to make TC Burn? - 15 years agoStrypes... I gave the HD to SD DV to DVD -workflow for a reason. If you don't have qtsync it is by far the second best option. I am doing this all the time and don't want to waste my time / precious HD space for dailies with TC burn. - Yes you are somewhat correct about rendering the burn on DVCPro HD vs. doing it on DV NTSC with downscaling. but... - It will take a lot longer toby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Faster way to make TC Burn? - 15 years agoOr, Bring your DVCPro project into a new DV NTSC sequence as a nest and use timecode effect. You still need to render but it should be way faster than full rez DVCPro rendering.by nicknasty - Café LA Re: XDcam files to test Transfer process - 15 years agoHere you are: This is just a single clip with nasty flicker (due to slo-mo). Not quite sure if you need more (like the whole file structure) to open it. Try it and report back.by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Stuttering text and animation after burning with Toast - 15 years agoHi Katrin, The first thing you need to do is to check your settings, change your sequence to 8 bit uncompressed for the final QT export and use Compressor instead of Toast to take care of MPEG -conversion. Also, make a disk image in Toast to preview it on your computer instead of burning straight to disc. This will let you troubleshoot more easily. + A lot of home-made and semi-pro 3D sby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Quicktime compressing for Youtube and Google video - 15 years agoThere are many many many recommendations how to do it properly here on Lafcpug. Pls, do a search and in no time you'll get the info you need. + Check out that DV-Kitchen review on the front pageby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Rubbish Audio correction?? - 15 years agomacapptraining Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > if i remember correctly, sony sound forge > (windows) can ease the distortion. i forget what > it's called but you can manually "draw" and > modify/reshape the sound waves. other than > working with that 2 years ago or so, i don't know > any other solution. Yeah.. That's whatby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Force Quits - 15 years agoI've had a lot of crashes with Magic Bullet. While FCP usually handles MB filters quite well, bloating the clip with a bunch of other stuff (CC, transitions etc) will eventually crash it. Since MB is notoriously slow to render, it might be a good idea to first apply MB solo, export/import QT and then apply other filters. Later, if you need to apply more filters it saves you from re-rendering theby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Rubbish Audio correction?? - 15 years agoIf you only got 2 minutes it is feasible to try to fix it "manually" in Soundtrack. I've had a lot of success fixing clicks and pops just by selecting the spikes and lowering the amplitude on problematic parts.by nicknasty - Café LA Re: optimum codec for CCTV vid to DVDSP - 15 years agoHey Nick... This is exactly why I don't like compressor. I used to shoot with Sony Z1 ( a 3 CCD prosumer) and the results were horrible on DVD. Weird "frame jumping" and other problems as well. I wish I'd know this hack a while ago Now things are better with p2 and XDCam. I am getting more reliable results with Compressor and my DVD's are "frame accurate" as far as I canby nicknasty - Café LA Re: Sone EX footage + Blackmagic Intensity video out - 15 years agoThis is what their TS said: These are the HD resolutions that intensity supports. 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 720p50 and 720p59.94 If you are doing a frame rate like 25p or 30p, it does not matter if this is XDCAM or something else, if the frame rate is not supported, there is a good chance it will not play back properly.by nicknasty - Café LA Sone EX footage + Blackmagic Intensity video out - 15 years agoAny ideas how to monitor XDCam EX footage on external monitor using BlackMagic Intensity card. Intensity has all the presets for DVCPro HD 720P but none are available for EX. Is there a workaround for this?by nicknasty - Café LA Re: Ingesting XDCam EX footage - 15 years agoThanks for the info. Well ,I did the copy thing (and did not use file browser) but it worked anyway.by nicknasty - Café LA |
