Picture too small to see what kind of award it is but it may be a Telly before the current design came into use.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: OT: Telly Awards - 16 years agoTelly's look good, especially in industrial work. But they are not that hard to get and they give away a lot of them. They have to charge for the statues because the awards are all this organization does. Unlike NATAS or AMPAS where they give relatively few away and pay for them with profits from the broadcast. If you win you get the certificate. But you pay for the statue. And they are kind of nby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: FS-100 clip playback to HVX200 viewfinder - 16 years agoYou should have www.dvxuser.com on your bookmarks toolbar if you are using the HVX. THE place to go for that. I have an HVX myself and attended one of their workshops on using the camera.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Timelapse Color Issues - 16 years agoI'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks for the help!by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Timelapse Color Issues - 16 years agoRandy, Tried Color Stabilizer and it worked pretty well. Added Wide Time and set it for 2 frames forward and 2 frames back. That cleaned up what flicker was left and it's completely clean now. Thanks. Graeme, I figured there must be some way to batch this in Photoshop but didn't know how to do it. Any pointers? Otherwise I will try to feel my way through that process as it might be a more diby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Worst Mac Interface Ever? - 16 years agoGonna disagree with you Ken, The Color interface style is similar to many high-end tools such as DaVinci, Autodesk/Discreet products, Quantel products. It's not that Color's interface doesn't suite the task, it's that a standard Mac interface may not be best for all tasks your are asking the computer to do.by Sprocketz - Color Use of Greta Macbeth chart - 16 years agoHi guys, I have a client who did the first part of a shoot with some bad lighting and poor white balance. He is continuing with another day of shooting and I wanted to recommend a chart he could use that would help me in post. I have used DSC type color charts before and know what I should see in a vectorscope. However I have not used a Greta Macbeth before and since the DSC charts are very exby Sprocketz - Color Re: Timelapse Color Issues - 16 years agoRandy, Thanks for that input. It's all running though AE first anyhow to resize/reframe/zoom the images and produce a quicktime to go to FCP. I gave Color Stabilizer a quick shot and I think it will do the trick. Not perfect but I didn't play with the settings much. The results were better than my hand tweaking on just the first attempt. I'll take a look at the Twixtor plug as well. Thanksby Sprocketz - Café LA Timelapse Color Issues - 16 years agoWell, I have been handed a handful of time lapse shots of factory assembly robots. These were shot with a digital SLR. Problem is there are slight shifts in the brightness. Sometimes frame to frame and sometimes there will be several consistent frames and then it shifts again. This of course causes flickering in the image. I have tried adjusting frame by frame but there is just to mucby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Noisy footage from a DV cam - 16 years agoJ, you haven't provided enough info about the footage. Was it shot in poor lighting? The aliasing issue you mention usually would have nothing to do with noise. Aliasing can be seriously increased with wrong settings in the camera. Last summer I had a big project with a lot of low light/high noise footage. I used the Noise Reduction filter in CHV-Electronic's Repair Collection and it did a amaby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Dell 2407WFP-HC 24" vs Apple Cinema HD Display 23" - 16 years agoChuck, I looked up the price of the Spyder 3 on Amazon and see that the new 3 has gotten some bad reviews. The older Spyder2 seems to get good marks. Any problems with yours?by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Dell 2407WFP-HC 24" vs Apple Cinema HD Display 23" - 16 years agoShane, I read through a thread from last April in which you said the Dell would work fine with the MXO. You are saying now to that you must have the ACD if you are going to use the MXO. Has something changed your thoughts on that recently?by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Dell 2407WFP-HC 24" vs Apple Cinema HD Display 23" - 16 years agoI have been looking to replace my 2 crt's and considered the Dell. Does anyone here use a calibration tool such as the Spyder 2 or the Pantone Huey. Are these tools useful for video applications or is video a different beast color wise from print and thus these tools are only useful for print. So if I buy a Dell, should I get a calibration tool?by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Getting by without a reference Monitor - 16 years agoShane, I just wanted to confirm with you that you are in fact using the MXO/Cinema display combo to color correct for the type of cable network shows you have mentioned working on many times. I am planning to recommend this setup to a client as all of the reviews I have seen pretty much state that this setup is sufficient for Discovery/History/A&E, etc. type shows. Also, is there a way tby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: NAB on the cheap - 16 years ago> Stay in the Motel 6 on Tropicana. Back when, it > was around $35/night. Last year I paid around $60. Stayed there many, many years ago. Read a news story a few months ago about "bed bugs" in hotel rooms these days and that very Motel 6 on Trop was mentioned. A woman was quoted for the story, saying she got scabies there. The trick is to separate the two tasks. Edit first and hold graphics off till the cut has progressed sufficiently. I have a graphics setup at home and usually tell the director or producer that I will work on the graphics at home. That keeps theby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: APPLE DITCHES NAB 2008 - 16 years agoI wouldn't worry so much about not attending NAB. Maybe Avid's bailout enabled Apple to bail on it as well. I would be more worried about the rumors the pro apps might be sold. Very concerned if development has stopped on the sequel to Shake and the fact that Shake is problematic under Leopard. That's a professional app that they seriously dropped the ball on. They animate in and I am adding a fade out at the end. I started out doing the fade by going into the motion tab and hand setting opacity keyframes. I was thinking I could copy and paste those keyframes to the other animations but it doesn't look like I can copy and paste keyframes in the motionby Sprocketz - Café LA Wire removal to solve a problem? - 17 years agoHi folks, got a problem needs a solvin'. I've got a lot shots from a camera that had a problem. There is a white line across the entire picture towards the top fifth of the frame. It's a thin line, 3 scan lines vertically or so, perfectly horizontal from the left side of the frame to the right. Stays in the same place the whole time, no movement. The linear nature of this arifact had me thiby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Journaling question - 17 years agoThanks Michael, I tried to turn journaling on in Disk Utility but I it wouldn't allow it. I believe you can turn it off if it was on to begin with but not turn it on if it wasn't formatted that way originally. That's my guess anyways.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Journaling question - 17 years agoThanks Koz, I appreciate your help very much!by Sprocketz - Café LA Journaling question - 17 years agoI am doing a new install of FCS on a new system drive and I formatted the drive without journaling. I have seen a couple mentions here that the system drive should be journaled and Larry Jordan mentioned it on his site but I have not seen any official Apple documentation. It doesn't look like you can enable journaling after the fact. I have only installed a couple of apps on the new system driveby Sprocketz - Café LA Re: Rendered Media missing - 17 years agoAfter more work with FCS2 I have pretty much ruled out Color as the source of the problem. Rendered clips in FC are disappearing as well. I have gone to locking the folders containing rendered media and designating new render destinations as a temporary work around until I can get the current projects out the door. I suspect a bad install of FCS2 or the install screwed OSX somehow. Other peopleby Sprocketz - Color Re: 17 hours of rendering gone in a flash - 17 years agoJude, thanks for that information. I did not do a "save as" but the information is very good to know for the future. I think this is a bad install and I need to start a completely fresh system in order to isolate the problem. I don't think it's just "losing track" or unlinking from the rendered media. I believe it's destroying the media completely. I had a similar problby Sprocketz - Café LA Apple Shrink - 17 years agoJust wondered if anyone has any information on the Apple app "Shrink"by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: 17 hours of rendering gone in a flash - 17 years agoNone of the drives, external or internal, are close to full. I think the only thing to do is to just get the show out to tape if I can and possibly do a complete system install after. I don't trust this install of FCS nor what it might have done to the system. Never had problems like this before FCS2 was installed.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: 17 hours of rendering gone in a flash - 17 years agoOK, tried Scott's suggestion and opened an old save. Sequence shows nothing needs to be rendered, no color bars of any kind. Skips on playback. Went to export to Quicktime. The export is taking about as long as it would take to render from scratch so looks like I am completely screwed. Don't see any other choice but to re-render everything and put it out to tape immediately.by Sprocketz - Café LA Re: 17 hours of rendering gone in a flash - 17 years agoOK, tried Scott's suggestion. Pulled up the last couple saves from the vault. At first I was elated as there was no colored render bar. But then when I play it it just stutters along. In the meantime, I have started the rendering again and when I stop it the newly rendered sections play fine. Drive is a pair of Seagate 500g SATA3 drives striped in a Firmtek enclosure.
