Something else is wrong.by Johan Polhem - Color Re: Jumping Graphics - 16 years agoThe jumping you get should only be in your canvas window. If you have an external monitor look at that instead, the canvas window is only for reference. The jumping is basically there cause FCP does not display the timeline at full resolution. If you select "sequence" in the top menu and go to "render all" - "both" FCP will render in high res and the jumping wilby Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: compressing/exporting varicam hd footage - 16 years agoNot sure what you are after here. the 720P file is in fact 720 X 960. Thats what it is suppsoed to be. When you look at it in FCP, it gets stretched horizontally to 720 X 1280. TV stations and DVD players alike all stretch the footage back to 720 X 1280 when you view it but the actual file remains the same. The same theory goes for 16:9 NTSC or PAL footage. Next to HDV its the lowest possible quality to record on. You can still shoot some nice looking footage on that format in the right conditions, but you are not utilizing the full potential of your camera. The highest quality fotage available when sby Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Time code error during capture - 16 years agoOh yeah one more thing: I had this issue once and could not figure out what was wrong when I realised that my inpoint and outpoint were the same. (I accidentally pressed I instead of O when I tried setting the outpoint) Just check by making sure that the duration of the unlogged clip is what you expect it to be and not 1 frame. This was an unusually stupid mistake from my end but nonethelesby Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Time code error during capture - 16 years agoOk, and you definately have a few extra seconds of timecode before your inpoint? If you have several clips to capture as a batch, I would recommend you try and capture another clip from that batch, not the first one and see if that works.by Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Time code error during capture - 16 years agoA few things I can think of: Firstly, make sure you are not positioned outside the timecode when you start the capture. If you have played the tape all the way to the end, past the last shot, FCP will not know where to start since it cant find the timecode. If this is not the problem then make sure that you have at least 3 seconds of pre and post roll. (Make sure the first in point is at lby Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: stabilizing a shakey dolly shot? - 16 years agoJoe is right, its hard to not scale the footage a lot if you have significant shaking. Thats what tracking tools do, they scale the footage to compensate. In terms of the tracker in AE, from my experience its is the poorest out of a poor bunch. Shake has a OK one and those times when I cant use AE I take it into Shake and it is always, without fail, a better tracker.by Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Blackmagic 8 bit codec woes - 16 years ago"I don't deal with Blackmagic codecs often, but last I did, it was in an FCP timeline that used a Blackmagic Uncompressed 10-bit SD codec, received from a client. That timeline refused to function until I actually changed its setting to the built-in Apple Uncompressed 10-bit codec. Johan, have you had a different experience with this?" -Yes Derek, I have for some reason. "i mean wouldnt that only have big value if you had your camera connected to your computer via the intensity atby Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: HD codec settings....I'm a little confused....Help! - 16 years ago"There are a number of HDV cameras having HD-SDI outs that bypass the HDV compression altogether." Really. is that 10 or 8 bit going out?by Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: stabilizing a shakey dolly shot? - 16 years agoThe stabilisation tool in AE is weak. Shake has an OK one but it will blow up your image all the same. perhaps try and stabilize your shot bit by bit to avaoid excessive blow up.by Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Blackmagic 8 bit codec woes - 16 years ago"I got both quicktime 7.2 and Final Cut Pro 6.0.1 to acknowledge the Blackmagic uncompressed 8 bit and 10 bit codecs." Thats interesting. Those codecs are EXACTLY the same as Quicktime uncompressed 10 bit and 8bit and you dont need blackmagic codecs to view them.by Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Blackmagic 8 bit codec woes - 16 years agoCan you choose Blackmagic 8bit as a codec for your timeline? If its properly put into your system the blackmagic options should be in your Final Cut Pro. Have you tried opening the file in quicktime as well as FCP?by Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Broadcast monitor: good or bad buy? - 16 years agoThanks again guys. ClayC that advice sounds good. At the moment its just SD but that will change. Jude. I am no longer in Australia but I know the best guy to speak to in Sydney reg broacast monitors and similar equipment. His name is Bill Papas from Powermedia in Surry Hills. I bought a JVC from them 2 years ago with SDI in and it worked very well and it was fairly cheap. I was under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that if you color correct on a CRT it is likely to be just fine on a Plasma/LCD whereas the opposite is not true. There is no real point to color grade for CRT´s much longer since noone makes them and fewer people use them. I have missed these debates here since I haveby Johan Polhem - Café LA Broadcast monitor: good or bad buy? - 16 years agoGuys. Our old Broadcast monitor recently comitted harikiri so now Im on the lookout for a new one. It seems as though the big boys (Sont, JVC) arent making much CRT monitors anymore and I dont really want to use a flatscreen due to their limitations (Or am I wrong here). I found a used JVC TM H1700G cheap ($US 800) that comes with a AJA conversion card that converts the SDI signal to Compoby Johan Polhem - Café LA Re: Need advice on sports movie transitions - 16 years agoI would also recommend you use a lot of good sports sound design. The background is CG so not to concerned about matching shutter speeds but that is good advice for future shoots. After reading these posts Im going with the varicam. We can afford any camera/lenses to shoot on its just the film development, telecine etc we cant afford on this budget. As Dan pointed out above the lenses are way better which is important. Its a green screen shoot so well have the best lighting conditions so wby Johan Polhem - Café LA Varicam VS HVX200 - 16 years agoGuys I am looking into a camera for a shoot next week. Can anyone explain the difference between the Varicam (AJ-HDX900) and the HVX200? (Same format different chip?) And would I be better off perhaps with the Sony FW900? Just transfered to Scandinavia, Oslo. last week we shot this commercial on DVCPRO50. It was shot progressive so i set the capture to progressive. Its been annoying me for quite some time now. I render them out as just quicktime movies, they are exactly the size they are supposed to be and then I move them to another folder and they dont play. I also get the "searching for data in movie file" box and then I get the wheel of death. Could there be a bug iby Johan Polhem - Café LA |
