The icon of the drive will appear on the Desktop, but not on the left hand side of any Finder window, in the drives section. As usual, re-booting the G5 solves it. I have owned Macs since 1985, this is something that has only happened with more recent versions of OSX. I am a bit curious, of course, if it is an OSX thing, or a potential problby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Capture video looking Streeeetched with P DVX100 - 17 years agoAs for LiveType - the Project Properties window totally ignores options for SD 720x480 16:9 Anamorphic... BUT there is an input box for Pixel Aspect. If you change that to 1.3, you will get a full frame of video when dropped into a FCP 720x480 Anamorphic sequence. (I had to re-position the text in LT to center-up in FCP, though). There is a lengthier discussion about LT and 16:9 on Creaby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Capture video looking Streeeetched with P DVX100 - 17 years agoAndrew - Your comments steered me clear on this. and the project is looking pretty good! Currnt status: footage is SD 16x9... with a few SD 3:2 clips from a prev camera. I was able to make 3:2 clips work on the 16:9 canvass. New dilema - LiveType! I drag the LiveType doc to my timeline, rather than export a QT file. I am NOT finding a Project Property in LiveType for 16:9. The recent Anamorphic posts sort of fit this, but they were about DVD Studio Pro - but I sense there is some fit with my current situation with FCP. I use my Panasonic DVX100A to playback tapes shot by my Clients for capture and editing in FCP Studio. I have been working for one Client for 18 months. Just the past month, Iby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Insufficient disc space for encoding - 17 years agoi use FCP Studio 5... on dual 2 G5. I export a 60-minute .mov from FCP... plus separate 30-second .movs for menues, copyright, and teaser/promos. Takes DSP about 90-120 minutes to 'encode' and 'build'. My DSP 'encodes' to the same drive as each original file. If I use files from multiple drives, DSP encodes each to the MPEG folder at the root level of each file in question. If you arby Nick Baer - DVD Studio Pro Re: operation not allowed!! - 17 years agoWhen that has occured, I've tried quitting and re-launching... I've never seen "operation not allowed" for render, but I have for "export", where for some reason the OS was telling FCP that I/it didn't have permissions to write to the selected destination folder. I would create a new folder, then "export" to that, and all would be normal. I haven't finished benchmarking my new Intel iMac Dual 2 20-inch, because the addl RAM hasn't arrived, and the Cross Grade FCP studio discs haven't shipped from boondocks Indiana. Apple REALLY dropped the ball by having the Cross Grade program handled by those nincompoops in Indiana. The Apple products are way behind the curve in terms of cinema sound. All the audio resources at Apple are behind being the consumer music store (iTunes), while our investment in FCP Studio has primitive audio/sound capabilities.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Making simple menu in DVD studio pro. - 17 years agoMy work falls within the range of length and quality where exporting a .mov from FCP and letting DSP handle it is fine. I know that I will need to use Compressor more, especially as I begin to dabble with 5.1 surround sound. I find the Compressor Interface to be clunky - more Windows-like than Apple. I think Apple needs to re-think a product like Compressor's Interface. Compressor has a lotby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Paste Attributes - 17 years agoPerhaps slightly off topic - One thing with Paste Attributes is that it "adds" filters, not "over writes" them. If you don't go back and look at the filters in your (destination) clips, you can have many multiple copies of filters, which really slows down rendering/export time. I believe they have 19" rack versions. It took an hour to build, and I'm VERY pleased. You can buy a Tower to hold 2 - 8 drives, one connector for each... and a 4-port SATA card for the G5. Firewire, just like my Panasonic DVX100 mini-DV. I also have a SONY Hi8 camera, and used a Dazzle external I/O unit, that then connects via firewire to the Mac. For non-firewire cameras, it is do-able to record the video from the camera to DVD using a $99 DVD recorder from Target, and then using DVDxDV to extract the videoby Nick Baer - Café LA |
