Is there an on-line website that is basically a list of FCP effects by name, and example of what they do? Once a month or so I do some recreational exploring of Effects... but since the window really can't be edited and re-arranged, I fear that I'll never remember what something can do when the time comes...by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Questions and info on SLIP, SLIDE, RIPPLE and Rock'n'ROLL. - 18 years agoCould you fix your Return key?by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: unable to export - 18 years agoScary, isn't it? I don't know if AVID, or Vegas or Premier users have similar problems, but I wish the FCP authors read these Phorums and have a feel for what we go thru. Tonight, I had a clip that the audio waveform did not show up... So, Copy / Paste to a new sequence, and the waveform showed up!by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Printing contents of the Browser window - 18 years agoHi other Nick - Thank you for the context specific help. I only wish the expensive Apple manuals could be as useful. I wish Apple had saved $300 or so by not giving us those huge and expensive printed books, and instead some kind of searchable CD or web link... ... especially if the help could be accessed in context specific ways, half as useful as this Phorum.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: TV Off Plug in - 18 years agoThat would be an awesome Dissolve effect to see included in the Effects > Video Transitions. Full screen, collapse to one horiz line, to one big dot in the middle, then the diameter of the dot collapses and dims. The alternate or contrary effect would be hot as well... black, quick surge growth of picture size, while fading up, maybe a slight jitter as the H and V syncs up... or am I flashinby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Printing contents of the Browser window - 18 years agoMaybe the FCP authors could make the Print command more robust by allowing us to print various windows. My big beef is the Effects window - all those powerful tools are there in tiny font size, and arranged how FCP wants them arranged, NOT as we users need them arranged (OK, so FCP is 90% right!)... Being able to print out that window would at least allow me to write notes on paper about the efby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Urgent - FCP won't render - 18 years agoNow, now, in FCP set up, I did nothing more than pick the drive I wanted FCP to use, FCP then created the folder names...by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: "Mosquito Noise"/ still image problems in timeline- I've tried everything - 18 years agoComputer monitors, and NTSC TVs are two very different specs. Your comparison of them is Apples and Oranges...by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: SIENNA - 18 years agoInstead of training and re-tooling the old AVID editors to work on FCP, they could save a ton by just hiring us FCP guys working for the past 5 years, learnign all the FCP quirks. I think most news stations could use a bit of a face-lift... behind the scenes.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Tell me htere is a a KEY I cna hold to turn off Snap to grid. - 18 years agoand unfortunately there isn't a spell check key here in Phorum.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Urgent - FCP won't render - 18 years agomake sure you have free drive space... Make sure your selected path for render files isn't hosed up with junk. Maybe trash the render files in the render folder and start fresh. Make sure FCP hasn't gotten cornfused and created multiple Final Cut Pro Documents folders... e.g. was FCP looking to save its files on a drive that is no longer in service, and it needs or needed to pick a differentby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: machine is breathing heavily - 18 years agoThere is a widget for Dashboard (free from the Apple.com site) that displays the temperatures and Fan RPMs going on inside your box. That will help you to determine which fan is breathing heavy, in the first place, and which temperature sensor is causing which fan to cycle that way. Armed with that data, you might have a better and quicker (maybe even cheaper) fix to the hardware problem goingby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Eliminating background noise - 18 years agoI wouldn't be so hard on the shooter. When I was a kid new in radio, I had a chance to get a 2-minute interview with Fred Friendly towards the end of his life, on his way out of a speaking engagement. Obviously there was no time or place to set up an acoustic perfect situation. And I will always treasure that experience - even with some crowd noise in the background! But I held the mic in the 6by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: unable to export - 18 years agoThe only time I've had such a situation, is when I accidentally or unintentionally had an In and Out Marker set, and FCP only exported what was in between the markers. I might have had a similar situation one time, and I did a Select All / Copy the contents of the timeline, and pasted it to a new sequence. (Sort of like trashing prefs, but not throwing the baby out with the bathwater). That in itself should ensure better compatibility.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Exporting QT for non FCP user - 18 years agoYou could take that .mov file exported from FCP and open it with QTPro, and export it again out of QTPro. Or you can try some of the other frequently suggested (here) options under Using QT Conversion... there are a couple of hot threads right now on that topic.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: OT: Rates - 18 years agoThere's more to being an Editor than using the razor blade in FCP... There's story telling, pertinent use of transitional effects, motion effects, color correction, title-ling effects. Most newspapers require a reporter to have a Master's Degree in the subject area of his/her reporting... besides Journalism. TV news departments seem to be more oriented to audience demographics (ethnicity and haby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Subtitles - 18 years agoDigital Heaven has a $10 plug in for "sub titles"... complete with free QT tutorial on their website to show an amazing number of options for the price.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Timeline Setting - 18 years agoCTRL-L is kind of similar to CMD-L... maybe his fingers offset one keycap.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: brady bunch split screen effect - 18 years agoThe Nattress set and the Digital Heaven set of filters together are an amazing set of tools... one being highly technical (standards based) and the other assisting with graphic art appearance. I also DL'd the DH Grid and the one that repairs drop outs/bad pixels. It works.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: quicktime export problem - urgent! - 18 years agoAnd sometimes I need to use QTPro to open a .mov made in another application, and re-Export it from QTPro as a .mov to get more universal readibility.by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Great Plug-ins for FCP - 18 years agoI really miss some of the old AMIGA Video Toaster transition effects. I wish someone would recreate them for FCP... The Weight Lifter, the feedback trails... I still have my Toaster (1992), just don't have the time and space to fire it up and see what would happen. maybe if I can find a new bigger place in NoHo...by Nick Baer - Café LA Re: A Reconnect Media - sort of - question - 18 years agoIs "deleting" tracks the wrong approach? Instead of deleting unwanted audio or video tracks of a clip, should I rather use "clip enable"? I've been "deleting" to keep the appearance of the timeline a bit more neat. ALSO - If I select a clip, and want to delete or un-"clip enable" the audio track, I have to * select it * CMD-L to unlink it * unselect iby Nick Baer - Café LA A Reconnect Media - sort of - question - 18 years agoSo I am editing an interview... and chopping up the questions posed by the host, and the responses from the guest... And I go back hours later and want to restore the audio from a cut that I had CMD-L unlinked, and then deleted the audio from, the cut on the timeline earlier. So if I delete the audio tracks of a clip... how do I go back and put the audio back on the timeline to go with its videby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Timeline Spanning Two Monitors - 18 years agoAnd if your two monitors are not the 'same" in terms of size, and resolution selected (System Prefs>Displays), you will not be able to freely extend from one monitor to the next. If you can move your mouse from monitor to monitor, then you can drag and extend your timeline. Again, in System Prefs>Displays you set the left-to-right order of the monitors, and which monitor contains theby Nick Baer - Café LA Re: Person appear in black and white - 18 years agoDerek - I think FCP will do this, but Peter threw in an additional layer of complexity by asking to make the subject be B&W. I have had excellent luck using FCP's built in Keyers (Chroma and Color under Video Filters>Key). if you change the image to B&W, then we no longer have a green or blue screen, we have a grey screen. My approach might be to try using two or three copies of thby Nick Baer - Café LA |
