That will give you the avid-like behaviour you are after. akby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Relink To On-Line HD Footage - 17 years agoThere may be a Distort setting on your clips depending on what the anamorphic setting was on the originals and the offline clips. Try a remove attributes on a copy of the sequence, watching out for intentional distort settings and making sure everything else is unchecked. akby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoNitris, Smoke wha? Capturing what into FCP? Uncomp 4:4:4? An offline res? Or are you capturing full HD to FCP over Blackmagic and then transferring those files to Smoke? How are you doing that? Get the Duck for FCP to Nitris. That DVD plan seems a little whack, yes? The widescreen version is actually just a cropped version of the full screen version. Opposite to feature releases where theby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: crop 4:3 to 16:9 - 17 years agoYou aren't going to be outputting to HDCAM SR 4:4:4 from your system with a firewire drive, so what is the workflow going to be? All the above suggestions would apply to figuring out the cropping issues in your offline and then you have to get those decisions to online.by Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: I need a M-16 for multiclip sequences - 17 years agoFor frustration free multi-clip editing or at least for reduced frustration you should map to your keyboard the following functions: Play Sync Off (you have to turn it off to load a new multi-clip or clip from the viewer) Play Sync Open Multiclip Active track V+A Multiclip Active track V only Multiclip Active track A only (there's a few options for this one, depends on your audio set-up) Cuby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: BWF/AIFF/WAVE & Final Cut Pro ? - 17 years agoSebsky tools is no longer being developed. If you are working at standard frame rates it works fine. BWF2XML from Andreas who appears here on this forum is a tool we use every day for converting 4 track a.k.a. polyphonic BWF files to .MOVs for use in FCP. Andreas can add more information but .WAV and .BWF are slightly different wrappers for the same audio format. BWF can carry metadata thatby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: How do you remove markers from clips? - 17 years agoI believe that this ~ is a tilde Tilde Wiki!by Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: How do you remove markers from clips? - 17 years agoGet to the marker using shift up/down arrow and hit command~ (the button above TAB beside 1) If it's in a sequence you have to have the clip highlighted for this to work. With nothing highlighted it only works for sequence markers. akby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: using FCP HD 4.5 on MacBook (non-pro)? - 17 years agoYour Macbook has Intel chips inside and FCP4.5 was only ever written for PowerPC chips. The only FCP that might run on your MacBook would be the 5.1.1 Universal (Intel/PowerPC) version. It might run under Rosetta but I somehow doubt it would be all that stable.by Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Bug transferring sequence back to XDcam - 17 years agoThere are some people using XDCAM here. I am not however doing any exporting back to XDCAM as a quick test seemed to indicate it would require too much time. I would be curious to hear of any progress you may have made though. akby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Sony XDCamHD in FCP - 17 years agoIf you shoot at 24p(23.976) and the 25MBIT setting (called "SP" in the camera setiings) AND you have FCP 5.1.1 and have installed the Sony XDCAM transfer tool you will be able to to mount disks on your desktop, load the disks in the transfer tool, view proxies and import them through the FCP import menu. We do this every day. If you are shooting 35MBIT or 18MBIT you can still mountby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Saving color corrections - 17 years agoQuoteBill Darstand now as I type, my multicam swithcing, (using the viewer to switch, and even the buttons) when I try to pick up where I left off, the cuts are not taking, and it says 'insufficient content to edit.' Also when I tried to send one single audio track to Sound Track, it also gives me the 'insufficient' message. It has been working on the previous programs, but not now. Now what? Hby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: 17in MacBookPro superdrive regions.... - 17 years agoChinatown, downtown Toronto. CDN$80. Plays PAL disks to NTSC monitor, plays all manner of disks, plays some -RW burns. Never had a disk it wouldn't play. Plays all regions. Hopeless remote design. I've received disks from Japan and they all play well. akby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: outputting an HD animation to tape - 17 years agoWhat format is the animation in? What program did you use? Is it like the Elevator one on your site? You can fit it on a CD? QuoteMitchell RoseHere's what the print traffic form at the festival asks: BetaSP? DigiBeta? HD? Hmm.. two of those are actual formats c/o Sony, the third is vague enough to have been misused and misinterpreted by everyone from Electronics store salespeople to that &qby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Old Old request - Next Tab keystroke - 17 years agoQuoteLoren MillerShift-Option-Z fits any selection in the timeline to the width of the window. Ooooh that's a nice one. thanks akby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: outputting an HD animation to tape - 17 years agoFull uncompressed HD?(HDCAM. HDCAM SR, D5 etc) a doohickinator is required. Plus a drive-a-loos that can handle the bandwidth. You would need a playout card that had at least HD-SDI (Aja or Blackmagic are popular) and a HD deck with HD-SDI input. (Yes I know HDCAM is compressed on tape, I am talking about the stream i/o as opposed to the mpeg2 HD variants) If this "someone" with aby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Old Old request - Next Tab keystroke - 17 years agoI use tabs in Safari a lot and have a shortcut for next-tab mapped to the wheel click on my trackball. It drives me crazy when I can't a) browse using tabs and b) move between them effortlessly. Which brings up the issue of consistency of shortcuts over the whole Studio line. The differences in how the timeline is zoomed in and out in Motion, Soundtrack, and DVDSP and FCP make it that much leby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Errors when rendering and exporting - 17 years agoWe were getting the same message when an editer let the project size get too big. At that point it was impossible to copy anything out of the project without getting the Error:Out of Memory message. I was able to defeat it by making a copy of the project at the file level, opening it up and deleting all the sequences. I had to do this carefully deleting one thing at a time and saving the projectby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Errors when rendering and exporting - 17 years agoTrash your prefs etc etc. How big is the project file? FCP version? Video format/resolution? CPU/RAM set up? G5, G4? How much RAM? Trash your prefs etc etc. FCP rescue Is 50Gig the only space you have left to render to as well? If it's just 6 minutes try rendering a low rez mpg4 to somewhere else to see if it's a problem with rendering to your drive. Have you tried cutting and pastingby Andrew Kines - Café LA Old Old request - Next Tab keystroke - 17 years agoI've been doing a lot of editing recently and learning lots of new stuff about FCP, XDCAM HD, 23.976 and a bunch of other fun techy stuff. I was just sitting here mashing away on an episode for an upcoming producer screening when I was reminded of something I've always wanted to be able to do in FCP. I remember wanting to be able to do this when I first saw multiple timelines open in FCP1.2 afteby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Time of Day suggestions - 17 years agoThanks Andreas. It probably won't be that many clips because the likelihood of the night shoots actually shooting across the rollover is pretty low, but I thought it was worth asking if anyone dealt with it on a regular basis. akby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Multiclip Actives - 17 years agoActive track means the one that you are "actively" switching. Have you laid the multis into a sequence yet or are you just previewing them? If you're working in a sequence as opposed to previewing, set active track to V+A or Audio, switch to the angle of the audio that you want to hear, then switch the active track back to Video and you should be able to cut video without affecting thby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Multiclip Actives - 17 years agoWelcome to Multiclipland, province of FCP. There are three main settings for switching angles Switching Video only, switching video and audio together, and switching audio only. The other options are for subsets of the audio that you want to switch. You can find this setting under the View menu near the bottom called Multi-clip active tracks My workflow is to map the three main options to thby Andrew Kines - Café LA Time of Day suggestions - 17 years agoWe're shooting a multi camera, double system show. Everyone is getting TOD TC from clockit boxes. Things are workin' fine. Any suggestions out there for how to deal with night shoots when the hour rolls over from 23 to 00? We're a totally tapeless system (XDCAM HD file import, HD audio record) so it doesn't or hasn't yet bitten us on capture but it might in online. I remember it used to give AVIby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Multi-clip volatile motion tab settings, no kidding! - 17 years agoI have done the motion settings to keystrokes before but I wasn't thinking along those lines for this project because it's pretty much straight story editing with a bit of titling. I'll investigate to see if its faster to have a "blank" motion setting mapped to a keystroke to remove the attribute, thanks for reminding me of this. The problem lies not in what the clip or multi-clip haby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: Multi-clip volatile motion tab settings, no kidding! - 17 years agoThere are about 10 multis in that scene and I had already gone through and cut out the onset chatter and set up and now I have cut it into the episode and done lots more, so I probably won't rebuild the multi. I can live with the workaround as long as it doesn't happen again. It's that wierd thing that FCP does when it tries to guess anamorphic/letterbox settings. I've seen other posts aboutby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: FCP failure to launch - 17 years agoThe way you have told us this it would seem that the projects had something to do with it, even if it is just pooched now regardless of what project you open. Did the downloaded projects get opened successfully even once? I know you don't think it's the projects but I would still hide them and any projects, and that windows firelite drive. If you have a good reason to not upgrade right now, like an older CPU that can't handle Tiger and FCS 5.1.1 then the question becomes more about what format are you shooting and digitising and are you planning an offline/online workflow or finishing inby Andrew Kines - Café LA Re: FCP failure to launch - 17 years agoMove the problem project off your system before you open FCP. That will eliminate or confirm the project as being part of the problem. Edit Backup all the projects on the system and move them off or put them on an external and take it offline.
