Re: The frame dimensions of DV Anamorphic are... - 13 years agoQuoteOn the bright side, we're almost out of the SD world now. Precisely - I always make my GFX in HD regardless now usually 1920x1080 and if necessary I render out at D1 but at least I have the project files at a decent res. QuoteWhy? For PAL widescreen, Adobe uses a PAR of 1.46, Apple uses a PAR of 1.42. In square pixels, Adobe (and the BBC) says 720x576 pixels = 1050x576, while Applby Ben King - Café LA Re: The frame dimensions of DV Anamorphic are... - 13 years agoGuys you are all forgetting that for Broadcast we have to allow for the extra width of the digital image. In the UK the actual active picture transmission area for PAL DV/D1 720x576 is 702x576 with 18 extra pixels (9 either side) that can be left black. Not sure if there is a good example of the NTSC based transformations but here is the PAL one from the BBC explaining why we use 1050x576 fby Ben King - Café LA Re: Batch filter disable/enable - 13 years agoGood call guys - I misread what Casey wanted.by Ben King - Café LA Re: F9, F10, F11, F12 Not working on FCP 7.0.3 - 13 years agoQuoteI have one of the early Mac Pros (2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) and neither the key nor the check box exists on my system. With a full size keyboard, I don't see why you would need multi-function keys anyway. Ah yes - I totally forgot that I updated the keyboard on my 2008 MacPro to the low-profile one as soon as they came out! I much prefer them - almost no RSI. And yes the 'fn' keby Ben King - Café LA Re: shift + delete command not working, just removes in/out points - 13 years agohaha! Well it probably didn't hurt to do a spring-clean anyway!by Ben King - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 13 years agoYeah I know how you feel but Apple had just gone to Intel so it would have been a waste of resources to spend a lot of money to properly support a system that they had officially dropped. You must remember that Apple haven't made PPC G5 based computers since 2006 and 5 years in computing terms is several generations! I think we all forget that the industry we work in and the computer industby Ben King - Café LA Re: shift + delete command not working, just removes in/out points - 13 years agoRestart the Mac and do some system diagnostics - Used Onyx and clean out caches and possibly trash your FCP preferences. Is it only in FCP that you are getting this issue? Try in a text app. If it doesn't work might be a broken key?by Ben King - Café LA Re: F9, F10, F11, F12 Not working on FCP 7.0.3 - 13 years agoMac Pro Keyboard Fn key is above Deleteby Ben King - Café LA Re: Logging Software for Canon 5D - 13 years agoThe timecode issue is not an issue if you get the Canon plug-in for FCP It adds the ToD TC from the EXIF info on the camera using the date/time stamp. A better more accurate conversion of the H264 (including ToD) from the 5D is to be had using Rare Vision's 5D to RGB and there is a batch script now: The problem here is the logging and not allowing the Director et al to mess it upby Ben King - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 13 years agoQuoteThe odd thing is that the canvas at near fullscreen is running at about 97% and I would have expected that to require more grunt than actual fullscreen. Any sizes that are non-standard or that are a requiring some arbitrary percentage scaling will often work erratically its best to stick to resolutions for playback that are easily divisible or multiples of the source so 25% or Quarter resoby Ben King - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 13 years agoQuoteI've seen 768x576 behave weirdly on a broadcast monitor and when going out to tape Oh yeah that will screw up - I mean't for file based creation and wot not. Most of the video cards don't like square pixel formats for SD as no decks use them. But you can create any size ProRes without fear as long as you don't need to adhere to a standard for video output.by Ben King - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 13 years agoYeah it doesn't really matter at all. ProRes can handle pretty much any square or non-square SD or HD formats and also non-standard formats like web-banners et al. I use ProRes is all manner of sizes with no issues.by Ben King - Café LA Re: Batch filter disable/enable - 13 years agoThere isn't any way to do this in the versions of FCP to date (1 to 7) but there are a few plugins/apps that can do it via XML. Andreas Kiel had a little app a while ago but not sure if he still sells distributes it. Another one is from: but it's a bit pricey. There will be at least one other coming out soon.by Ben King - Café LA Re: How to get file with Alpha into ProRes422 timeline? - 13 years agoHey guys try to use Y?CbCr not YUV YUV is Analogueby Ben King - Café LA Re: How to get file with Alpha into ProRes422 timeline? - 13 years agoSorry I decided to do a brain fart... Quotelooks like I'll be using the motion direct to FCP method on this one, as long as I can get it to render without issue. Yep rendering Motion Projects can be a bit flakey, but if it works it should give you the functionality and ease of alteration via simply changing the Motion Project and re-saving it. But to clarify those numbers The 1.33 is GigaHertz The 667 is MegaHertz So the 1.33 has twice the bus clockspeed than the 667. Your issue isn't necessarily down to this - but certainly there is a massive time-saving to bed had with a New MacPro as they really are massively faster than the PPC G5s and working with the latby Ben King - Café LA Re: How to get file with Alpha into ProRes422 timeline? - 13 years agoYou have to export a separate animated "travelling" matte if you use ProRes 422 as very few video CODECs have built-in Alpha Channels. However ProRes 4444 Does. However ProRes 4444 was released with Final Cut Studio 3 and FCP7. The options for you are: A. To export a PNG or TIFF sequence with transparency or Animation CODEC with Alpha. B. Create an Alpha channel matteby Ben King - Café LA Re: Logging Software for Canon 5D - 13 years agoSurely you just do this in L&T?by Ben King - Café LA Re: FCP continues to crash - 13 years agoDon't nest the sequence. Try exporting a reference movie ie; Export Quicktime Movie with "Make Self Contained" unticked This will save a movie file with links to the original media - a bit like a sequence in a Quicktime Wrapper. Use this in Compressor or Quicktime Pro to Transcode to ProRes. Mac System HDD> Library> Application Support> ProApps> Final Cut Studio System IDby Ben King - Café LA Re: Clone System HD to another Mac via "Target" mode? - 13 years agoYou could always get Digital Rebellion's FCS Maintenance Pack and use the system toolkit to remove the Serial number from each clone so that you can put in the individual serials. That is of course unless you get a volume licence - that would be most cost effective and easiest.by Ben King - Café LA Re: Back end percentage? - 13 years agoI have been lucky enough to make money from a feature by percentage but I also got my basic cost of living covered as I could not commit to the film otherwise. For the record - (in the UK at least) Percentage Points that pay are known as Smarties and those that don't are often called Monkey Points... Both Dave and I identified the PSD issue that I experience with the 6.0.1+ update but I'd like to document the issues that others are having and see if we can't find a solution/work-around for some others.by Ben King - Café LA Re: QuickTime Emasculated - 13 years agoHey Koz man! Where have you been hiding? If it's not installed in Apps/Utilities/ then you will need to install it from the Mac OS X installer disk under "Optional Installs" Read here:by Ben King - Café LA Re: WARNING: Mac OS 10.6.6 UPDATE (ProKit 6.0.2) - 13 years agoYeah - the damn annoying thing is now I can't seem to re-create a new non-working one!!!! So I can't even find out what caused the issue in the first place to create so much extra code. The new PSDs actually contain LESS metadata. So for now I will reinstall the ProKit and test for other issues and can revert if it goes awol. Then swapped filenames so that the non-working was being linked and DVD SP came up with this (in 6.0.1) Asset Refresh Problem "/Volumes/RAID 6/Menu-PAL-D1-working.psd" no longer uses a supported graphic format. You must update the asset to a supported format before it can be used in this project.
