Re: canon XHA1 and FCP - 17 years agoThis is an excellent comparison article with stills by HVX champion Barry Green. There are a load of interesting clips on this and the dvinfo site. In low light the A1 comes out on top and there's some great split screen stuff of both cameras in action in which the Cannon seems to be holding its own. the colours from the panasonic are fabulous, but if you read the (25 pages!) of responby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: canon XHA1 and FCP - 17 years agoOkay Wayne. Some good points you've made there. I guess i need to take more time over this purchase. I switched from prem pro to FCS last year and spent a lot of money on a new intel mac pro and the 23 inch hd monitor as well as the FCS software all of which are a good deal more pricey this side of the pond. The thought of having to buy a new laptop for the HVX is deeply unappealing. My dealer teby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: canon XHA1 and FCP - 17 years agoThanks for the contribution Wayne. Ok , i wasn't being very clear with my line of questioning. I'm aware that hdv is "flavor specific" but i haven't come accross a Canon VTR which is why i made the query in the first place. My understanding is that it is necessary to down rez the footage in order to play on a dvd anyway, though i'm told the images are still outstanding. I'm still wonderby Dom Stevenson - Café LA canon XHA1 and FCP - 17 years agoI'm about to take the plunge and buy my first HDV camcorder (Canon's highly regarded XH A1). Are there any FCP workflow issues i need to be aware of before i dive in? I've never cut anything in HDV before. Also, will i be able to capture the rushes through my trusty workhorse pdx 10 (baby brother of the pd150/70) or will i have to wear out the heads on the new cam until i can afford a suitable VTby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Double clicking L key - 17 years agoSHIFT S and Hey Presto! Well done Josh. Works a treat. Thanks, Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Double clicking L key - 17 years agoI spend a lot of time going through interview footage and have found the 2 clicks on the L key allows me to hear the audio while speeding up the clip, thus saving a lot of time. recently this function no longer seems to work. i play the clip at normal speed (with a single click) and hear the audio, but when i click again to speed things up the sound is no longer audible. What?s up? regards, Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: overwrite with transition produces duplicate clips? - 17 years agoI think you're both correct. i failed to place the playhead at the beginning of the selection and probably select insert by mistake as well. Seems to work fine with your advice. Thanks for your help. Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA overwrite with transition produces duplicate clips? - 17 years agoI've been trying to do a Larry Jordan trick and highlighting a few clips and dragging across the canvas onto the overwrite with transition tab. sometimes this works fine and puts transitions between all the clips, but sometimes it makes duplicates of the clip/sequence. What's going on? thanks Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: split screen effect - 17 years agoYou Guys are great! Many thanks. It's 2 am here in london and i need to turn in now, but i'm confident it'll work fine in the morning. Happy new year! Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: 4:3 clips on timeline - 17 years agoBingo! it worked. Thanks for that Derek, Much appreciated. Now i can go back to bed (it's 2 am in london and i need my beauty sleep). Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: split screen effect - 17 years agoThanks for your help Rob. I did try that before posting but i could only see a quarter of each frame, when i need to show all of it - albeit quarter-sized. I assume i need to modify each clip so they'll fit? How do i do that? ideally i'd like a black cross dividing the Four images. Cheers, Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA 4:3 clips on timeline - 17 years agoI'm doing a 16;9 project but for some reason a few clips from a longer clip have gone into 4;3. The original in the browser is still in widescreen. i right clicked the clips in question and went to properties - format - and ticked the anamorphic box but they're still in 4;3. What's going on? Happy New Year, Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA split screen effect - 17 years agoI need to put four shots on screen simultaneously to show 4 different views of a clay pot being made. don't seem to be able to do it. Is it simply a question of playing around with the motion and opacity tabs or do i need to put the clips in Motion? are there any tutorials around? A search of LAFCPUG failed to find anything. thanks, Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA capturing Sony Z1 HDV footage - 17 years agoA friend wants me to edit a Documentary shot on a Sony Z1. I can rent a HDV deck for £50 per day and he has five one hour tapes. Ideally i'd rent the deck for a few days but cannot justify the cost as its currently unpaid work. If i cpature the whole lot in a day How much disk space will it take up, and will i be able to delete the excess footage once i've put a rough edit on the timeline? Ps.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA capturing hdv footage - 17 years agoA couple of friends have made a documentary about an eccentric archaeologist friend of ours and have asked me to edit it. I'm running the universal FCS on a new intel 2.66 tower with an apple 23 inch HD monitor. The film is shot in HD mode on a Sony Z1. Can i capture the rushes from my Sony PDX 10 SD camcorder, or do i have to rent in an HD deck for the job? When the grading stage arrives, willby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Prem Pro files in FCP - 17 years agoHi there. just bought my first mac ( intel 2.66 ) and have a large folder of Prem pro v1.5 avi files from a project about a pottery i started and never finished. These are currently on a lacie external (xp formatted). Is there any way of getting this media into FCS? thanks, Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA |
