Re: start stop detect feature not working? - 16 years agoSounds like a plausible explanation. Thanks Scottby Dom Stevenson - Café LA start stop detect feature not working? - 16 years agoI like the start stop detect feature in the Mark menu, particularly since i tend to capture in large chunks and make subclips to save my cam wear and tear. So i was not happy when i took on a short film job shot on an XL1 in DV PAL 4:3 AR and discovered that the 4 hours (of largely rubbish footage)would not work with this feature. I'm wondering if the "cameraman" (who shot the whole thiby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Apple Certification - 16 years agoI took the end user exam a while ago and learnt a huge amount by having to engage with the Diana Weynand book. I discovered i'd been doing some very easy things in a painfully roundabout way. I also discovered many excellent keyboard shortcuts i would never have learned otherwise. Of course this has nothing to do with being a good editor. I have now put the logo on to my business card and CV. Noby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: HD MONITORING/SONY SD MONITOR - 16 years agoNick writes: the Matrox can give you a SD output of HD material, but as you know, uses the Computer's DVI out out, normally used for a computer display. So Nick/Shane, i'm thinking of getting an MXO for grading with Color. I have a basic mac pro with the basic nvidia 7300 Graphic card and 23 inch ACD. Do i need a second monitor or will this set up suffice? I'm told i need to upgrade toby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: 4k and 2k.. what it stands for? - 16 years agoTop draw jargon-busting stuff. I feel like i've learnt something today. Nice one Clay. Taby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: sequence settings between cameras - 16 years agoTim, I was aware the sony was not "true" sixteen nine, however it had an option to shoot in either mode and i used it quite happily like that for the 2 years i owned it. More importantly since Tom helped me out with the sequence/clip settings fiasco last night, the DV 16;9 footage from both cams looks perfectly nice. This is a low end job and recapturing is out of the question. The clby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: sequence settings between cameras - 16 years agoyeah i know Phil, but there's squashed and there's flattened to the point where all you see is a sliver of video. that's what i was getting when i said it was squashed. I should have said double squashed. I think after Tom's help last night i've got my head round where i was going wrong, and it all looks fine now.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: sequence settings between cameras - 16 years agoDid that Tom. with the clips flag unchecked in an unchecked sequence setting its showing as four three. which seems to suggest its anamorphic. "Never copy and paste from one sequence to another unless you know what you're doing." that's what i've been doing wrong. Also, I was not changing the clip properties in the Browser either which was confusing me. I've now got the twoby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: sequence settings between cameras - 16 years agoYes i did check that. the dv cam clip has a tick in the anamorphic column and is squashed. the other 2 clips from the Canon ( 1 HDV the other DV 16"90 look fine and do not have checks in the column.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: sequence settings between cameras - 16 years agoOk Tom, i started a new project and chose the DV anamorphic easy setup. put the clips in and the opposite has happened. The clip shot from the Canon (in dv 16:9 mode) now looks fine but the clip from the PDX10 (dv 16"9) now looks squashed, so i'm back where i started i'm afraid.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: sequence settings between cameras - 16 years agoThanks Tom, OK, i'm on the latest version 6. I always shoot everything in 16"9 though i recall that the pdx10 didn't shoot "true" 16;9. I'll be shooting the new footage in DV 16:9 but presently the stuff from the two cameras looks different. I never shoot in 4'3 but at the moment the clips from the Canon (shot in DV 16"9 mode) is showing up as 4:3 in the timeline.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Trouble going from FCP to Soundtrack Pro and back - 16 years agoLast time i had funky things going on between these 2 programmes i trashed my STP pref file and it was sweet. Could be worth a try?by Dom Stevenson - Soundtrack Pro sequence settings between cameras - 16 years agoA client who i shot a promo film for on my Sony pal PDX10 dvcam camera a year or so ago want to add some interviews etc to update the film. I have since sold the camera and now own a Canon XHA1 HDV cam. They are quite happy to have the new footage shot in pal dv or hdv so i brought a couple of clips in both formats into the sequence to check they'd match up before i go off to shoot next week. Tby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Color issue - 16 years agoThanks john, and its cheaper than i thought it was going to be too. However a quick net search and i find the ATI X1900XT is over a year old. Sounds like an antique in this business. Has it not, or is it not, about to be superceded? It sounds like last years model. Then again if it'll do the trick i'll get one. And there was me thinking all i needed to do was save up for a Matrox MXO box.by Dom Stevenson - Color Re: Color went ballistic? - 16 years agoGood point Mike. I just woke up and am back at my desk. I think one of the things that happened was i sent the project more than once thinking it wasn't working properly so ended up sending multiple versions. This is the easy bit that makes sense. But the more worrying thing was that it appeared to be rendering every single frame i shot as well as the sequence. I sat down to watch tv while it dby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Color went ballistic? - 16 years agoFalse alarm. think i've identified the problem.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Color issue - 16 years agoMore money eh? A depressing answer but thanks all the same Noah. Any recomendations for the GC upgrade. I'm on the intel mac pro 2.66 with 3GB RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card at present. Domby Dom Stevenson - Color Re: HDV to DV Pal - 16 years agoNot sure how to do that Jusrus. Can you reccommend somewhere i can put it, and what format etc?by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Color went ballistic? - 16 years agoSorry for putting a color post on here. I did put one on the right forum a while ago but its not had a reply and i need one if there's anyone around. I shot a 5 minute short this weekend and decided to give Color a go. I've used it for fun but never rendered anything before. Five hours later it's still rendering and theres a whopping 21GB file in the renders folder in the Color Docs folder. Firby Dom Stevenson - Café LA rendering in color - 16 years agoIts my first render in Color and my 5 minute short is taking ages. No problem but it appears to be rendering the outakes that i never sent to color from FCP. I sent for rendering using the add all button. Also i had one shot straight into the sun throught the forest canopy which was slowed down. This shot appears as a color bar for some reason. Any ideas?by Dom Stevenson - Color Re: sync changes from FCP6 to STP - 16 years agoI'm glad i'm not alone. Last weekend i took part in a 48 hr short film competition and decided to send the project off to STP for audio tweaking. WHAT A FIASCO. I wont bore you with the details except to say i found the exported project (using control click SEND TO) out of sync and could hear the director saying "action" etc even thouth the FCP sequence was polished and ready to go. Iby Dom Stevenson - Soundtrack Pro Re: HDV to DV Pal - 16 years agoMany thanks Nick and Jude. I was pulling my hair out about this last night when the director checked up and discovered that a DVD was admissible after all. Don't know if you've ever done one of these 48hr short film things but its a an interesting crash course in filmaking that i reccommend. Having said that i'm pleased its over and am looking forward to hitting my bed tonight. I captured to FCP6 in 1080 25f (p) mode having shot it on the Canon XHA1 in the progressive HDV mode, and tomorrow i'll be editing it. Now i'm told they want it put back to DV on a tape. Because time is very tight (7pm tomorrow) i wanted to check what would be the best way to go about getting it back to DVby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: L shaped symbol and Purple band missing? - 16 years agoThanks Martin. I thought i'd already tried that. Just back from Tangiers last night, so i guess my brain is still a bit smoky?by Dom Stevenson - Café LA L shaped symbol and Purple band missing? - 16 years agoThe L shaped symbols in the lower left and right of my timeline clips reminding me i'm on first or last frame of a clip are not visible, and the Purple band at the end of the sequence too. Have i unwittingly turned something off/on? Thanks Domby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Becoming an OSX expert..... - 16 years agoEwoo, Peachpitt Press have some good books some of which cover the kind of ground you're talking about. I've been on macs for about 18 months and love FCP after several years with Prem Pro & PC's. Boy am i happy i made the jump! Tomorrow i take the FCP level one exam having saved myself £1300 by studying the book (£25 used on Amazon) instead of doing the official training course. Theby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Are Apple Loops public domain? - 16 years agoOk, that makes sense but what about the "musical beds" that come with the latest version of STP? presumably they're made up from loops, but by Apple not us.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA smoothcam? - 16 years agoI had a nice little 2 second clip of a couple of doves sitting on a roof (shot on my Canon XHA1 in HDV1080). Unfortunately it was a wee bit wobbly (delerium tremens perhaps?) so knowing that the master clip was huge, i did an export of the 2 secs as a self contained quicktime movie and imported to the browser and onto the Timeline . I then added the smoothcam filter and analyed quickly and efficiby Dom Stevenson - Café LA Re: Putting FCS1/2on laptop? - 16 years agoOK, that makes sense. Thanks Mike.by Dom Stevenson - Café LA Putting FCS1/2on laptop? - 16 years agoI need to put FCP on a 17 inch powerbook laptop for a few days to finish a job away from home. I have all the disks for FCS1 and also the FCS2 upgrade. Do i need to put the FCS1 disks in first and then load the FCS2 upgrade after or can i just load up the upgrade version? In other words is the FCS2 box i bought a couple of months back a ready to go standalone package or does it require the compuby Dom Stevenson - Café LA |
