Re: Next meeting sold out? - 18 years agoSing AND Tap? I can't tap. I wouldn't even look as Dorky/Cool as Napeoleon Dynomite. I have serious "white guy dance syndrome." I even bite my lower lip. :^)by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Next meeting sold out? - 18 years agoIt's like a Green Day concert for FCP geeks. Whose opening? Not Phil and Kevin again? (lol) I missed out too. But we are on a tight schedule here so I can't skip out on work again...darn it all...by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: is HDV really worth it???? - NO!!!! - 18 years agoWhat is "ture HD?" Sorry. I misspell that word that way ALL the dang time. Usually catch myself. Yeah, I am firmly outside the HDV camp. If you are gonna go HD, the lowest form you should consider is DVCPRO HD. Saves you from LOTS of headadches, and I am one for less headaches. The more I hear about HDV, the more confused I get. So I just stay away.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: FCP at PlasterCity - 18 years agoI went to their Open House. Their ENTIRE facility is centered around FCP.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: DVD Scene "Extractor" - 18 years agoThat is still an illegal use Doug. Any use of commercial DVD material other than for personal home use is illegal. Especially since the clients are paying you. Big no no. Mpeg Streamclip also doesn't bypass copy protection.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: monitoring HDV - 18 years agoSince I don't work in HDV I cannot say with certainty. But Decklink claims that it will. I'd HIGHLY SUGGEST contacting them for that answer.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: monitoring HDV - 18 years agoI don't deal with HDV so I am not entirely sure what I'd go with. I know what to do if you want to monitor it on another computer monitor like the Apple 23" or the Dell 2405 (Decklink HD - $595, and Decklink HD Link - $695) but as for how to convert the HD signal into an SD signal for monitoring...I know high end cards like the Kona 2 and Kona LH do this, but not sure about what others.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: monitoring HDV - 18 years agoAh...this topic again. Well, you could use the Digital Cinema Desktop, but you won't get proper colors. Really the only way to monitor HDV is with the use of a capture card and converter box: #25 HDV external Monitor Viewing Shane's Stock Answer #25 - HDV external Monitor Viewing To view HDV on an external monitor you are going to need to purchase a capture card, like the ones Decklink or AJby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Going Rate for Editing Services - 18 years agoCharge hourly. Give an estimate for how long it will take, but let them know that overages may occur, especially if they have lots of changes. Make it a rate for you and your system. Insist on half up front. Pricing is diffucult for it depends on a lot of factors...your experience level, the equipment you have, the size of the client...etc. I charge $75-$100/hour for me and my system for cby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Audio OMF export consolidate??? - 18 years agoNope. The media is inside the OMF file. Unlike an Avid where you consolidate, FCP includes it in the OMF.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Freezes and dropped frames capturing uncompressed 1080psf 23.98 - 18 years agoUncompressed 10-bit HD hovers around 200 MB/sec.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Freezes and dropped frames capturing uncompressed 1080psf 23.98 - 18 years agoGreat minds think alike...by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Is fcp 2.2 compatible with OS X? - 18 years agoIt isn't. FCP 2 runs on OS 9 only. And not in Classic mode. Needs to be a machine that can boot to OS 9.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Freezes and dropped frames capturing uncompressed 1080psf 23.98 - 18 years agoWhat hard drive setup do you have?by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: is there any disadvantage to outputting to dvcam? - 18 years agoNo. In fact, it is better to output to DVCAM rather than miniDV. Less chance of dropouts.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Will Walter Murch be signing? - 18 years agoI thought Congress was talking about passing laws AGAINST torture... Even my own kids don't want to hear me sing...by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Will Walter Murch be signing? - 18 years agoFor a second there (until I read the post) I thought the subject line was "Will Walter Murch be SINGING." Now THAT would be something to see.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: 24p Pulldown Advanced edit timeline then "Print to Video"? - 18 years agoMy questionis, if you are going to broadcast (29.97), why would you shoot 24PA and edit 23.98 fps? What could you possibly gain? Keep it simple. Shoot 24P, capture and edit 29.97, and output 29.97. Do not muddy the waters by going 23.98 then trying to go back. It makes no sense, and opens the doors to huge workflow problems. The less complex your workflow, the better.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Changing text size - 18 years agoThe TEXT function can't do this, Only Text 3D.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Changing text size - 18 years agoAre you using Title 3D? It does this rather easily... Just highlight the word you want to change the size of and change it. Couldn't be simplier.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Transitions: apply all? - 18 years agoNot if they are already in the timeline. The only way to really do this is take the 20 clips, mark in and out, highlight them, drag them onto the CANVAS window and select INSERT WITH TRANSITION.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: 23.98fps Online - 18 years agoIf you are onlining on Digibeta then you need to online at 29.97. Digibeta does not run at 23.98. You edit 23.98 only if you are a) outputting to DVD, b) exporting a cut list for a negative cutter (but in this case you really should be cutting at 24fps straight up), c) outputting to D5 at 23.98 fps. What yo uare going to have to do it online at 29.97. YOu will need to export and EDL, use Cineby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: 'Capture encountered a problem...' - 18 years agoYOu aren't supposed to capture to your internal System drive either. It is busy running the OS...and therefore will encounter problems as well.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Film Damage Effects - 18 years agoBUT...if you buy Magic Bullet Editors 1 for $299, the upgrade to MBE 2 is FREE. SO hurry...if you want to go that route.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Basic question: Audio source a1 and a2 gone - 18 years agoIt is dependant on what sits in the Viewer...right. If you have a clip with audio, there they are. If you load a clip wihout audio, they are gone as there is no audio for them to represent.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Capture Froze... - 18 years agoAbsolutely it will be affected. Turn it off while using FCP.by Shane Ross - Café LA Re: How different is Avid? - 18 years agoWell Kevin, you are a graphics guy too, so your head is already there. For those of us who are just editors, it was a little...wonky. I didn't like it when I had to use it for 2 weeks. But I also didn't like Avid v10 either. On a PC and clunky as hell. Avid Meridian v11 all the way...when I have to be in Avidland. Old, but going strong. But yeah, definately have to know both to be marketabby Shane Ross - Café LA Re: Film Damage Effects - 18 years agoJust laying out all the options. And rumors are about that Magic Bullet Editors 2 will have increased render times. But you know rumors... And yeah, I have an older Cinelook that took...oh...5 hours to render 2 min. Granted, that was on my iBook, but it was FASTER than the other editors powerbook. How that happened I'll never know. CGM is decent, and Nattress' filters offer SO MANY otherby Shane Ross - Café LA |
