Re: Workaround so dissolves can start or finish on edits: Two free transitions - 12 years agoI can't speak for Jude, but I would prefer the popup option rather than multiple effects.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: New Editing Function? Option Backslash - 12 years agoThere's also Option-[ and Option-] to trim to the beginning or trim to the end.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: 1080/50p in FCPX? - 12 years agoI think the problem comes when you try to import from some camera that shoot the 50p and 60p formats. I've been seeing reports that FCPX is not recognizing it. I think that's the same in FCP7.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Remembering In and Out points (ranges) in the Event Browser - 12 years agoForget this subclip thing. The F key does nothing but add a green bar to the clip between the I/O. Click the green bar to get the I/O. Back you have a Favorites smart collection then there you'll have some kind of semi-subclip, but the original clip in the event or whatever collection it's in just has green marks on it, just as if it had multiple I/O points marked in it. If you want to do whatby Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Remembering In and Out points (ranges) in the Event Browser - 12 years ago"to use favorites as a way to remember in and out is just plain clunky" Really? I, O, F. And not only one set of I/O it will remember multiple I/Os in a single clip. So in an interview you can pull multiple bites and they'll all be remembered. Sounds good to me.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: FCPX Feature Wish List - 12 years agoCAN WE PLEASE HAVE A FRAKIN SCROLLING TIMELINE WHEN EVERY OTHER FRAKIN APPLICATION ON THE PLANET CAN DO IT!!!!!by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Recommendation: Kevin P. McAuliffe's Cow tutorials - 12 years agoIf he would only stop calling it X instead of 10.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Remembering In and Out points (ranges) in the Event Browser - 12 years agoYeah Video Machine!!! I used to cut (or ripple cut) and paste, which would remove the used clips from the raw sequence. I actually moved the clips to V2 so when I cut and pasted to the other sequence the B-roll would automatically go to V2 because that's where it came from. You can do the same in FCPX, copy and paste that is, between sequences. Use Cmd-[ and Cmd-] to toggle the Timeline Hiby Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Remembering In and Out points (ranges) in the Event Browser - 12 years agoWhy are you doing this Alex? Moving them up onto an upper track. Notice they're connected. Am I the only one who thinks the FCPX interface is too dark? Half the time I can't see the connection lines.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Remembering In and Out points (ranges) in the Event Browser - 12 years agoP.S. Favorites don't have subclip limits. They do in the favorites collection when viewed in the Events Browser. That's kind of the point, but in the timeline you can stretch them out to the length of the media.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Remembering In and Out points (ranges) in the Event Browser - 12 years agoMark a range in Clip A, press the F key. Mark a range in Clip B, press F. Go back to Clip A mark a new I/O and press F. Go to Clip C, mark I/O and press F. Go back to Clip A you have to I/O selections to choose from. Click the green bar to remark the I/O for that section. I don't have a problem with the timeline playhead moving. It behaves just as in FCP. You play it moves, you stop it stops.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Remembering In and Out points (ranges) in the Event Browser - 12 years agoThe advantage of favorites, which is a single keystroke, is that it remembers multiple I/O in a single clip. You can call up any one with a click. Why would you lose your place in voiceover? The timeline playhead doesn't move.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Import XML Written into X's Code - 12 years agoYou're on. Not going to happen. Thanks for that Nick.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Why do people rushed to get FCPX? - 12 years agoExcellent Apple hype as usual, much build up, well orchestrated by careful leaks using specific people, and a very long wait for a product whose development was long overdue and that had to be updated or die. Everyone was hoping this was it. Apparently Virginia, there is no Santa Claus.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: fcpx and prores question - 12 years agoAfter you download FCPX you run software update and you get to download the additional codecs. I have no idea if ProRes would become available with FCP5, almost certainly not for editing, but possibly for exporting.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Not quite as positive things - 12 years agoInability to open any previous projects created in any version of Final Cut. Seriously unstable, but maybe we've been spoiled. Couple of crashes a day, and occasional complete loss of data. No reconnect function at all. Only reimport, and no reconnect to existing project. It is only one sequence per project. However you can have as many projects as you want, but each project is in a unby Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: The Final Cut Pro X Bug List - 12 years agoThere are some mean dogs there. Thanks Michael. Hope you had fun in London.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Larry Jordan on Final Cut Pro X @ London Supermeet - 12 years agoIs there more after this? Larry seems like he was cut off in mid-sentence.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Larry Jordan on Final Cut Pro X @ London Supermeet - 12 years agoThe email Larry reads pointedly ignores any way to bring FCP7 or older projects into FCPX. If they think that will be acceptable going forward, they have completely lost the plot. Even if projects can only be brought in without titles and without effects, the video and audio and effective EDL must be translatable into FCPX. If Apple can't do it, which just boggles my mind, then some bright lad whby Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Larry Jordan on Final Cut Pro X @ London Supermeet - 12 years agoI notice that Larry says that between FCP3 and FCP4 Apple changed the plugin architecture from FXScript to FxPlug and all the plugins broke. I don't believe that was the case. FxPlug architecture was added onto the FXScript plugins, which are still available in the current version of FCP.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: "Background Rendering" - 12 years agoIt's autorender with about a five second delay. It is really seamless. You're working and you're not aware it's happening because proxies are being used while you edit.by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Zen and the Art of FCPX Understanding - 12 years agoI think you're trying to make it work like FCP7. You're thinking in terms of compound clips and projects acting as sequences, rather than in terms of making selects with keywords and using keyword collections and smart collections to organize your material. You keyword a selection and it goes into the collection. You don't have to do anything. You don't have to put it anywhere, assemble anything;by Tom Wolsky - Café LA - X Re: Zen and the Art of FCPX Understanding - 12 years agoI should point out that this is nothing new; Apple did exactly the same thing when it released iMovie 08. It was the radical departure from iMovie HD, which was right on the cusp of being a decent consumer editing application. The replacement was the mortar of the foundation we're now talking about, and that version, iMovie 08, was a similar radical departure that was completely unfinished.
