Graphics card for 2009 mac pro - 9 years agoI'm looking to upgrade my graphics card for my MacPro 4,1 2009. I was looking at the Nvidia GTX680 with 2GB of VRAM or the AMD 7950 with 3 gb of VRAM. I primarily use FCP 7 but will also be using FCP X and occasionally After Effects. The AMD has more ram and is almost $200 cheaper. Both are listed on OWC as being compatible with my system. Any advice?by Momo - Café LA Re: This is appalling! - 10 years agoSorry Michael. I should have put OT in front of it!by Momo - Café LA OT-This is appalling! - 10 years agoI think everyone should be aware of this: Theft in the FCP world I know people are innocent until proven guilty, but there seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence against Pixel Film Studios. I currently use FCP 7 (which doesn't make use of the GPU) but will also be using media composer 6.5 and FCP X soon on this system (I will have Avid and FCP on different boot drives). It has the ATI 4870 but wanted to see what cards were recommended as an upgrade.by Momo - Café LA - X Graphics card upgrade - 11 years agoI have a Mac Pro 4,1 that I purchased in 2009. I currently have a 512 mb ATI card but was considering upgrading to 1 GB or larger for Motion and After Effects. Is ATI/AMD recommended over Nvidia or vice versa? What is more compatible with FCP 7/X, Avid and CS5. I own all three but primarily use FCP 5.by Momo - Café LA Re: Wakeup from sleep - 11 years agoIt's not that I am putting the system to sleep. I should have been more clear. The display goes to sleep if I leave for an hour. I guess my solution would be to eliminate the ability to go to sleep and turn off my monitors manually before leaving for a while.by Momo - Café LA Re: Wakeup from sleep - 11 years agoThanks Loren. I actually do have several window layouts mapped to keyboard shortcuts, but unfortunately they don't restore the bins back to where they were.by Momo - Café LA Wakeup from sleep - 11 years agoI have a 2-monitor setup with my FCP system. Whenever I wake my computer from sleep, windows move from one monitor to the other. It's only slightly annoying, as it doesn't take long to move them back to where I had them. Has anyone else experienced this?by Momo - Café LA OT: R.I.P. Steve Jobs - 11 years agoWhether you agree or not with his decisions about the future of editing, the world just lost a visionary today. Like Larry said, "We don't have all the answers yet." Good or bad we won't know the answers to a lot of our questions until FCP X's release in June. Like Michael Horton said "Final cut 7 still works" and it will continue to work until we all know the ins and outs of FCP X.
