Re: Advice Needed on Camera to Purchase - 13 years agoi had an hmc150 for a little over a year. Loved it for what it does well. Cheap media, long recording times, all the other features you'd expect on a camera--XLR, LCD screen, all sorts of controls, etc. Sold it because I'm not doing as much freelance work anymore. Image quality of the DSLR's is pretty amazing when compared with a traditional cam. He's a low-talker, and the unedited/unenhanced audio peaks at about -16db. I'm able to boost his signal several ways (compressor/limiter, normalizing, etc) and can get his signal up to 0db, but I'm getting a "Can you boost it above 0db, still hard to understand" request from my boss. I know the 4 core vs 8 or more core argument well, and I've seen how that can come into play (my home system is a 4-core and work system is an 8-core) when encoding mpeg-2 or h264. The difference between what you've got now and a new one won't be so great that it would be worth it, in my opinion.
