Re: Question about drives and transfer rates? - 9 years agoHey thanks for the detailed information!by ianedit - Café LA Re: Question about drives and transfer rates? - 9 years agoThanks for the info!by ianedit - Café LA Re: Question about drives and transfer rates? - 9 years agoThanks for the detailed response. So what is a good mbps for editing?by ianedit - Café LA Question about drives and transfer rates? - 9 years agoI was just wondering if anyone out there knew what determined transfer rate or mbps speed? For instance you'll see numerous different drives advertised as having the same 7200 Rpm, same interface i.e.; thunderbolt, e sata, firewire 800 etc but with all different transfer rates. Thanks, Ianby ianedit - Café LA Three monitor setup with mac mini? - 10 years agoDoes anyone know if it is possible and if so what setup to have a three monitor setup with a mac mini? Two for editing and a television for your third client monitor. Using a tower so laptop as one of the monitors not an option. Also could I hook up one of these bad boys, link below. Thanks.by ianedit - Café LA Re: Best FCP to AVID Tutorial yet - 11 years agoI watched these. No Avid editor uses any of these techniques at all. Unfortunately he also left allot out. In the editing a sequence tutorial he used the smart tool for everything which is the way that would be the closest way to edit in Avid like you would edit in FCP and I guess that was the whole point of the video but the smart tool method for everything he did is actually the slowestby ianedit - Avid Media Composer Re: Applying color correction to multiple clips - 11 years agoIf you are on avid you can park on the color corrected clip, go into effect mode, drag the icon in the upper left of the window to your bin to make a template then click the overwrite segment mode ( red arrow ), then shift click all of the clips you want to add it to and double click the template in the bin and it will be added automatically to all of the clips you have selected. If you are onby ianedit - Avid Media Composer Re: Avid on iPad? Yep. - 11 years agoAvid can trim on the fly. Are you saying it just can't do it in the iPad version?by ianedit - Avid Media Composer Two things that annoy me about MC6 - 11 years agoCan I just say that the interface for Avid has annoyed for like the past 15 years in the sense that the source record monitors cannot be individually resized. I was really hoping that MC6 would adopt the FCP method of actually being able to resize the monitors high on the screen and pull them to the sides with black bars appearing on the sides in the monitor window like in FCP when you resize itby ianedit - Avid Media Composer Re: Marker questions - 11 years agoThanks guys I'll have to try those things out. One of these days I'll read the actual FCP manual but it's so much easier to get answers here. I get like one FCP job per year so I never really get fluent, every time I start a project I feel like I am starting over and end up here with basic questions Although I don't know if it's wise to invest time in reading a manual for software that can'tby ianedit - Café LA Re: Quicktime in Avid - 11 years agoI have had some bad experiences with AMA. Crash happy. Not as stable. There are also media management limitations because it's not part of the media database the same way it would be if you imported it.by ianedit - Avid Media Composer Re: Am looking for a thread or an article telling me what I would miss from FCP if I go to Premiere - 11 years agoI toyed with Premiere at B an H for like twenty minutes and realized that you get dual image play as opposed to single image play in FCP in the trim window when ripple trimming and you get a four up display when slipping so you can see the outside frames you are slipping against which is something you don't get in FCP either.by ianedit - Adobe Premiere Pro CC Re: $999 FCP to Avid Symphony crossgrade offer - 11 years agoWhat my online guys say is that the only difference between Symphony and MC is of course the CC tools and the fact that it has universal mastering. Copy and pasted from an article: Universal Mastering means that you can take any 23/24/25p SD or HD project and output as 23/24/25/29 p or i SD or HD during Digital Cut. Mix and match allows you to use different frame rates within the same projeby ianedit - Avid Media Composer Marker questions - 11 years agoI am trying to replicate my Avid workflow for long from docs. What I do in Avid is I string out all of my material in the order it was shot ( you can do this past twelve hours of material if your playlength toggle is on ) and I go through and put black locators at the top of every scene, naming the scene in upper case and red locators within the scene in lower case for stuff I like with characby ianedit - Café LA Audio questions - 11 years agoAnyone know the FCP 7 equivalent of the Avid set volume or pan global or from in to out? I'd like to make all material on tracks 1-8 center panned. Also, if I have a clip where 1-8 all have different volumes how can I make all of the clips have that exact volume per track without selecting each track and doing the option/command L absolute/relative thing eight times. Like A1 is 8db and A2 is 0dbby ianedit - Café LA Re: Does anyone know where I can get a copy of FCP7? - 11 years agoThanks everyone.by ianedit - Café LA FCP7 system requirements. - 11 years agoI just posted the previous topic but I was also wondering if I can run FCP7 on a macbook running 10.6.8 with a 2.4 GHZ intel core 2 duo with 2GB of memory 1067 MHz DDR3? I am not cutting on it, just practicing and refreshing knowledge ( haven't used it in two years ) for a job I have coming up on a real setup. Ianby ianedit - Café LA Does anyone know where I can get a copy of FCP7? - 11 years agoDoes anyone know where I can get a copy of FCP7? I am in NYC.by ianedit - Café LA Anybody know the FCP7 version of Avid's Audiosuite? - 12 years agoBasically adding reverb, flange, changing pitch or speed etc ... I am especially looking for the D-Verb function ( making a particular note ring out longer ) ... Do you have to take it into Soundtrack Pro? I don't know Soundtrack Pro and would like to manipulate it in FCP7.by ianedit - Café LA Re: The Empire Strikes Back (well Apple that is) - 12 years agoWell THAT is a no go. I think that FCPX might be to the post production world what Mark David Chapman was to the music world.by ianedit - Café LA - X Re: The Empire Strikes Back (well Apple that is) - 12 years agoWell what format does it export to the mix in then? Haven't toyed around with FCPX much yet.by ianedit - Café LA - X Re: Betting Everything on FCP X - 12 years agoThe entire consideration of the idea of a 28 minute show being edited in 17 minutes is absurd. It takes me three weeks to cut 22 minutes. It takes me the first three days just to organize and learn my footage. Editing speed isn't in the software it's in the speed of your thinking and seeing all the puzzle pieces and their connections quickly. It's not as if editing is just hitting a series of butby ianedit - Café LA - X Re: The Empire Strikes Back (well Apple that is) - 12 years agoI am sure whoever mixes the audio would love a trackless omf ...by ianedit - Café LA - X Re: Producers that don't pay!!!!! - 12 years agoThis is horrible. Maybe in the future you can insist on getting paid weekly or in installments and if they miss the first scheduled payment bail immediately and withhold materials. Going a month without payment seems like a long time. You can also do a little research on the producer as well. Does he or she have the funding already or do they have to wait to be paid from the client.by ianedit - Café LA Re: Avid Hardware Interface - 12 years agoThere is probably soup to nuts folks in LA for short form but I think high volume long form still kicks it old school with the different divisions of labor. I know at Pink Sneakers ( reality tv company ) in FL they still divide things up so maybe it's a short from long form thing.by ianedit - Avid Media Composer Re: Avid Hardware Interface - 12 years agoActually just read that at the big town hall they had in LA last week these vendors were present: -AJA. -BlackMagic -Matrox -Motu -BlueFish And Motu does make a 4 channel XLR out.by ianedit - Avid Media Composer Re: Avid goes 64 bits - 12 years agoWell if you are lucky enough to work on shows that aren't mucked up with cheesy sapphire effects than resolve may be the way to go. But the tangent wave, now that's pretty fancy pants.by ianedit - Avid Media Composer |
