Re: Labelling Tracks - 18 years agoand of course while you cant colour code your tracks, you can colour code your CLIPS. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: DigiBeta > PowerBook - 18 years agoNate, AJA does uncompressed video over FW, this box converts between SDI and DV, sending the DV over the FW. Joe, where do you find these things?! i've never seen this one before. the Datavideo DAC5 is cheaper, but only has SDI + AES/EBU in. it's a bit bulkier, too the most portable unit is the Miranda DV Bridge+. that'll fit in your carry on luggage other products doing the same thing: SDby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Labelling Tracks - 18 years agohere's what i do when i really need a track label: put in a minute or 2 minutes worth of text at the front of each track. rename each one in item properties (apple 9) to reflect the track name. they've gotta be big anough so you can read the whole word when you;re zoomed you all the way. of course you can label your tracks in Soundtrack PRo nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: MPEG2 export - 18 years agoim doing 30seconds in 5-6 minutes. this is with a small frame size (320x150) dod 480 x 270, which took corespondingly longer. i noticed that it seemd faster if i didnt try to do ANYTHING ELSE on the computer. this thing is a CPU hog. i also notice that when the export starts, all your render files seem to go offline in FCP: i rist get a lot of red "nededs rendering", then nothing at aby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: up/down arrows + some good things - 18 years agooh, i left out a step... you know how you can select a cut in a track in the timeline, then hit up or down arrows to jump to hte next or previous cut in that track... you can navigate like that from hte viewer, too. double click a clip into hte viewer FROM THE TIMELINE (that's the step), and hit up or down you navigate *in hte viewer* to the next or previous clip. "open" gang mode dby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: new FCP5 cache files? - 18 years agoyes, some abstract conection between them? (paranoia shirt on: or some hook back to apple?) and "Obj cache" sounds more practical: might be keeping track of files (objects?) from other apps like motion? all pure speculation... :-/ id say trash the lot, untill proven inocent! nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: AVID multicam EDL to FCP - 18 years agowell if the EDL contains reel# and timecode, then i guess it should work! import it into FCP for "reconect" then reconect to the relevant files. do a test as soon as you can to check it out. cheers, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Editing a FCP4.5 project in FCP5 - 18 years agoit doesnt seem problematic. as usual you need to leave the gate open behind yourself, in case you need to rush back: either open, convert (to hte new FCP5 "format", and save as, so as to preserve your original. or duplicate in the finder as a back up, label one of them with "4.5" on the end, and open, and convert the other one. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: 5.1 mixdown - 18 years agook, here is the answer, courtessy of both the head sound guy at Film School here, and the super can-do guy from the local mixing place who would have done the mixdown originaly, except he was too busy... they both agree, so i gues it;s some sort of standard! pan everythng as you'd expect: L & R to L & R, Center to center. L&R Suround to L&R and bring down 3-4 db. LFE track, panby Nick Meyers - Café LA up/down arrows dont take me to next shot - 18 years agoup/down arrows dont take me to next shot. talking about in the viewer, here. used to be in a clip opened from hte viewer, you would hit down arrow to get to the next shot, and up to go to previous. great for colour corecting, fx, etc. now i just go to the out point. big deal... i can Shift o for that. maybe it;s just me, or does anyone else get this, too?by Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Cool new plugin with FCP HD and Tiger - 18 years agoand now i need to use it! does anyone know what the scale is? it's not in semitones, or percentage... i need to drop pitch on some audio on 24 fps material conformed to 25fps. thanks, nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Capturing Live mult-cam performance - 18 years agoyes, a fair few tape machines... but a camera is a tape machine, so there ARE lots allready. the cameras record to themselves, and you take the s-video line out of them and into a switcher that is recoring it's out-put to a deck, as well as feeding the projector stagger the change-over of tapes so that not ALL the cameras go dead at the same time. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Capturing Live mult-cam performance - 18 years agoyou'll have to get a switcher for that, i think. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: 'What's New' PDF in FCP 5.0 - 18 years agohi, Paul. just updated... excited! im hooked up to the internet, but the "What's New" document is not coming up for me. either through the menu, (i get an "unknown file" warning) or the PDF link. (i get the new "tink" bad-news sound) have you heard of this happening? any ideas? im in australia, if that makes a difference... nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA new FCP5 cache files? - 18 years agoi;ve just updated... have a look in your FCP user data filder. there are now a few extra files there. Final Cut Pro Obj Cache and Final Cut Pro Prof Cache as a dedicated pref trasher (or should i say preff freshener?) i'm curious as to what the new cache files might be for.. and as far as that goes, i;'m still rather curious about what the OLD ones do, too. POA is something to do with the PLugby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: QT convertion vs compressor - 18 years agoand is also batch-able. are the options in compressor mainly to do with multiple compresions in the one show? cos that'd mainly be of interest to longer-form shows, like features, wouldnt it? an hour and under you could probably just set to a decent standard and let it rip in QT, or exporting from FCP with QT conversion. or simply doing the encoding in DVDSP? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA HD and Audio files on seperate disks? - 18 years agoa freind is cutting a super 35mm film here being shot out in the outback. a feature, but with a pretty low ratio, no more than 10:1, more like 6:1 rushes are on DVCProHD, with audio as seperate files. i;ve been advising. all slate-takes are separate files, double system is desired in case they will use an EDL for audio. we're wondering about the pros and cons of working with the audio files: keby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: 5.1 mixdown - 18 years agoi've a few issues with the trailer, (which i didnt do) but glad you like it. you're very perceptive.. i'm pretty fotunate in that all the projects i do i think are special, and i'm always working with people i like. that goes for the three dollars crew: we've made a few movies together now, and it's a pretty tight team. it's in the market at cannes, but there was some reason it couldnt show in coby Nick Meyers - Café LA 5.1 mixdown - 18 years agohi, there. i;m going to be cutting down our cinema trailer to a 30" TV spot. i asked for the audio stems mixed down to stereo pairs, but i got them as 5.1 tracks. so i'll be mixing them down myself. what are the "rules", if any? panning is clear, but i suspect i should drop the level of the surrounds. by 3db? leave as is? or get rid of them altogether? i can simply use my earsby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: FCP does not update viewer - 18 years agoyes. have you tried copy / paste into a new PROJECT? otherwise, what is it about these clips that is different from the ones that work? nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: FCP does not update viewer - 18 years agomaybe a corupted sequnce? copy all and paste into a new sequnce, see how you fare. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Audio setup: amp vs. mixer - 18 years agonone of the DJs i know work like that. i've worked in a few clubs here in sydney. they're all set up pretty much the same. turntables + CDs directly into the mixer, mixer into the amp, amp into house speakers, with an aditional monitoring feed from the mixer into a powered speaker for the DJs. im happy enough with my tiny behringer mixer, but if i wanted a super clean signal, i;d pull out my maby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Network Problems w/Offline RT - 18 years agoi cant coment on the network situation, other than agree with greg, but if it works for you, that;s good. do you get this with ANY OLRT media or just a few specific clips? i;ve had instances of certain files being fragmented (? or something) and causing hic-ups. a re-capture, (or even a move to another drive) has fixed that. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Audio setup: amp vs. mixer - 18 years agoagree headphones are great for details, not so great for mixing more than one track. i guess i should have said "unless you;re listeng *exclusivley* with headphones, and that's not much good." Koz: "We have two edit suites in the same room" that's how i work when i;ve got an assistant. i;'d rather be in the same room, (good for the team spirit) and i do use headphones then,by Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Audio setup: amp vs. mixer - 18 years agowell, you need an amp somewehre in there... unless you;re listeng with headphones, and that's not much good. here's a common set up: deck/card into mixer mac out-put also into mixer mixer into amp amp into speakers. a powered monitor doest change this picture at all, it;s just that the amp is built into the speaker cabinet. and a powered mixer does the same thing. powered mixers generalyby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Need a Good Face Blur Filter/Program - 18 years agocheck out the motion tracker collection from CHV: and the motion tracking pin-blur from Lyric: . nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Audio setup: amp vs. mixer - 18 years agounles your amp has mulitple / switchable inputs, a mixer is an essentail part of the cahin. nickby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Changing pixel colours - 18 years agoyou'll run into problems zeroing in on a particlular colour, as it seems that colour is in the face AND the background rather than using colour to isolate the area, define the area with a mask shape. first double the clip up on itself, (option shift drag the clip up to hte next track) apply the mask shape filter, and set it to oval. then add the mask feather filter to soften hte edges make theby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: 24P , long media and other mishmash - 18 years agoi should know, but i;m guessing. try Library / Application Support / Final Cut Pro System Support / Custom Settings as for the capture, interesting question, and i dont know the answer. the issue would be is it actualy a "Capture Now" with it's inherent problems ? (bad for speed mods) if you know you dont have problems with long capture now clips, then go fo it , i suppose anyone sby Nick Meyers - Café LA Re: Capturing: Does it take a big one? - 18 years agooh, no.. im the guy they meant when htey said "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" so here's my little bit of knowledge, take it with a grain of salt: HDV is compressed using MPEG. LOTs more compression. the biggest difference beteen MPREG and DV is that MPEG is.. uh whats the word.. anyway it records one complete frame with all the info, then the subsequent frames (15 i think)by Nick Meyers - Café LA |
