Re: error on some dvd players - 18 years agoYou didn't mention the disk brand. All disk brands are incompatible with certain players, and some have horrible track records. No brand is compatible with all players, but some are much worse than others. Try a different brand first before looking for other issues. Brands to consider are Maxell, Sony, TDK, Fuji, and a few others. Brands to avoid are Memorex, Iomega, and every house brand. Alsby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: help:discs returned!! - 18 years agoTwo suspects: - Disk brand is a leading cause of "unplayable" disks. Doesn't mean it was a bad burn, just not compatible with the individual player. (You didn't mention whether the returned disks were played on the same player.) - Never, ever use paper labels on a DVD. Unlike CD players, DVD players are much fussier about disk thickness. Also, paper labels can cause an almost unmeby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Changing Subtitle Font - 18 years agoMike, select one of the subtitles, then select the actual text in that subtitle. Change it to the desired font. Keep all that text selected. Now, when you click on "apply to stream", it should change the font throughout. Should.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Can't update assets in DVDSP - 18 years agoI use a lot of stills in my DVD work in DVDSP2. I get occasional requests to update an existing project, and sometimes just need to replace a still with a correction while the project is ongoing. The problem I face is that the new asset doesn't replace the old one. Here's what I'm doing: - Place a jpeg on the timeline and assign a chapter marker to it. - Build the DVD. - Receive updatedby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Export FCP to iDVD 6 - 18 years ago1. Forget using M2V with iDVD. 2. Easiest is to export to QuickTime PhotoJPEG set to highest quality. 3. Forget it. I have seen a few notes on how to transfer iDVD templates to DVDSP, but never had any luck with it. You can check the archives if you want to try it.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: round graphics in PSD file used as menu background - 18 years agoClay, as I was replying, for some reason I was thinking motion menu at the same time. Forget what I said about interlacing. Doh.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: dvd freezes at chapter marker - 18 years agoJacques, it sounds as if you have the Wait time for Chapter 1 set for Infinite, or at least some value. That will prevent the DVD from advancing to Chapter 2. In the Marker inspector, check that wait time for Chapter 1 is set to "none" and the the "Pause after each VOBU" is unchecked.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Invalid SCR Values - 18 years agoI'm stumped. After many dozens of DVD's mastered successfull, I bump into this error and I can't figure the reason or the cure. When building, everything seems fine through the Muxing. Then, I get a failure message that says "Invalid SCR Values." On the off chance it had something to do with the subtitles, I removed them all, and the error went away. I'm preparing the subtitles usingby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: round graphics in PSD file used as menu background - 18 years agoTwo thoughts. - If you haven't already, try making the background graphic far larger than you need. When I create graphics for DVDs, I use a width of 1920. They seem to come out nice and clean. - You may see some limited jaggies on your monitor as a byproduct of interlacing. If your DVD is to be played on interlaced TVs, those jaggies will probably go away. If you plan to display it on a cby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: hi,need help in including dts audio track in the existing dvdmovie - 18 years agoBalaji, if I understand what you're trying to do, you have six audio tracks (in WAV format) that you want to convert into single 5.1 surround sound file you can use in a DVD. Probably the easiest way to accomplish that is to use A.pack. When you open A.pack, you will be able to select the type of output -- in this case you're creating a 5.1 surround sound. The dialogue window in A.pack will shby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: DVDs won't play on some machines - 18 years agoCan't tell from the information you provided so far. What application did you use to author the DVDs? Were the disks DVD-R or +R? Are the Macs in question able to play other DVDs? How did you burn the DVDs? Toast? From an image file? If you can share a bit more info, we may be able to help.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Pixellation in Self-Contained Movie - 17 years agoThanks, Shane. I appreciate your insights. Since my MPEGs (thru Compressor) come out fine using a self-contained movie, I suspected as much. It just surprised me to find exports through QuickTime Conversion coming out looking so much better (smoother, less pixellated) when played in the QT player. Nice to know I'm not losing my mind.by Bob Rice - Café LA Pixellation in Self-Contained Movie - 17 years agoPerhaps someone can explain this to me. When I export a self-contained movie from FCE, I expect to see something pristine when I open it in QuickTime. What I see looks okay at 1x resolution. When shown full screen, it's blocky and pixellated. (20" RGB monitor -- and no, I don't have an NTSC monitor to check the files -- drat.) If instead I export a Photo JPEG with QuickTime conversion, I geby Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Capturing a newscast - 17 years agoWhat you describe sounds a lot like what happens when attempting to capture copy-protected video. Is that a possibility here?by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: what's the best format for delivering feature films over the Internet? - 17 years ago<There's no "I" in "TEAM"...which is what filmmaking is...a TEAM effort.> There's no "we" in TEAM either... which is why I always chuckle when I hear that misapplied phrase.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: what's the best format for delivering feature films over the Internet? - 17 years agoSome ways you can save bandwidth... - reduce teh resolution (320x240 max) - set audio at 22 KHz - 15 fps Try that and see what happens to your file size. It'll still be big, but perhaps easier to swallow.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: exporting closed captioning for DVD - 17 years agoWhy not just use subtitles? All those issues go away.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: how can i get a DVD on my IPOD - 17 years agoYou can use MPEG Streamclip (if the DVD isn't protected) to extract the DVD contents in either H.264 or MP4 formats. According to Apple, the video specs for iPod are: H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 framesby Bob Rice - Café LA Re: audio peaking - 17 years agoYou can also consider modifying Koz' suggestion. Record some live applause. Then, lower the levels of your distorted track and lay the new applause track over it and blend the two together. This can give you audio that sounds more like the original, with the distortion being less noticable.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Best DVD format - 17 years agoYou delete the layout files because many (if not most) DVD players choke when they find anything in the VIDEO_TS folder that they don't expect. The layout files don't belong there on a final DVD. Incidentally, when you use DVDSP to make an image file of the DVD (my preferred route), it excludes the layout files for you.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Best DVD format - 17 years agoFC will send Quicktime to Compressor, so you end up with the same end result. Quality will be the same. So, I guess you could say it's getting compressed twice either way. Where you will see differences in quality is if you export to a noisy or more lossy Quicktime format. I always use Quicktime PhotoJPEG at maximum quality, unscaled. I get the same visual quality as if I exported uncompressedby Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Best DVD format - 17 years agoI get my best results using: Quicktime Photo Jpeg Quality set to maxby Bob Rice - Café LA Re: FCP to Windows Media Maker Pro? - 18 years agoWindows Movie Maker captures DV just fine. The only output is WMV. It's a rather crappy little program, and for the price (free), it's still many steps below iMovie in quality.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Streamclip Unavailable??? - 18 years agoKoz, is there any possibility your client would be willing to go with WMV format? At high resolutions, it looks a lot better than MPEG-1. And they can play it with most any Media Player released in the past few years.
