Re: Audio Fix ***HELP!!!*** - 17 years agoAre you able to EQ out the lowest of the bass? Might give you enough headroom to save the rest of the audio without having so much of the bass to contend with.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Help - 17 years ago90 minutes should not be an issue. I recommend using Compressor (not DVDSP) to do the encoding. You can use the standard 90 minute high-quality encode setting to get it all to fit comfortably on a DVD-5. Just drop your QT files in Compressor and off you go.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Menu doesn't work on a PC - 17 years agoThe biggest mistake my clients make when trying to view DVDs on their PCs is using Windows Media Player. That software is crap and has more playability problems with DVDs than any other player app out there. Without exception, I advise them to use something -- anything -- but Media Player. When they make the switch, their DVD playback problems usually vanish.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: menu randomnes - 17 years agoAnytime you pass a mouse over a DVD menu, you "select" whatever button the mouse last passed over. That may be what's happening to you. If you insist on using a mouse with DVD menus, try moving the mouse to the right or left instead of down so you don't pass over the top of other buttons. The advice to always use the remote pad (on the DVD software) is wise for testing.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Write error - 17 years agoMaria. With those X's and O's, I'm not sure if your Mac is trying to hug or kiss you. Have you tried just doing a build? If so, do you get the same error? Check your log tab. You'll see all completed steps in the current process listed. The last item on the list is usually the step where the error occurred. That may help you isolate the cause. I see that on TVs whenever white levels are excessive. Try setting your white levels down a bit (less than 100% opacity or with a small amount of gray) in the graphics and see if that helps.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Mpeg to VOB - 17 years agoYou didn't mention if you are watching the MPEG on the same screen as the VOB. If not, you can expect differences. Be sure to check your before and after results on the same monitor before making other kinds of adjustments.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Transcoding Files - 17 years agoAccording to what I see in the DPS specs, it's quite comfy with DV. I wouldn't hesitate to give him what he needs in that format. It will allow him to edit without further losses. I also didn't see anything in the specs that suggested that DPS can use a DVD as its source video. Could be wrong there; just didn't see it.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: DVDSP quits when mp2 selected to be imported - 17 years agoSomething I find helpful when trying to locate a problem like this is to isolate individual elements to eliminate as many variables as possible. (You might already be doing this.) Here are some suggestions. Do you experience the same problems when attempting to insert other video files (known good ones) into the same project? I wasn't sure from your post, but have you tried creating a newby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Help with video storage on dvd - 17 years ago2 hours is quite doable. 3 hours is gonna give you a major quality hit. Absolutely make certain the audio is compressed as AC-3, perhaps at a bit rate of 160 or a lower (music will probably be acceptable down to about 128). For 3 hours, you'll need to make your own preset for Compressor. I had a similar challenge early last year, and set my average bit rate somewhere near 3 or 3.5. Compressor allows you to do that easily. By setting up a batch, you can have compressor encode the same file with multiple settings, so you can compare the results. That way you only have to set it up once. It all depends on the way a particular player manufacturer decides to design it. That's true whether using a set top player or computer. As for making the text invisible when not selected (normal state), you have two choices. (I'm sure there are more, but these are the only ones I know how to use.) - Use layered menus, which you alby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: What not to do when editing HDV natively. - 17 years agoSounds as if you're already convinced.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: DVD Region question - 17 years agoThe default setting in DVDSP (in my version anyway) has all regions selected. To verify yours, select the disk at the top of the Outline. Then in the disk inspector, click on the Region/Copyright tab and make sure the regions you want are selected. Since my DVDs are used around the globe (international training company), I use every region except 7 (reserved). The plugins are purt of the Too Much Too Soon set. And the price is right (free). One of the plugins is Shadows/Highlight Gamma. I find the highlight gamma sometimes useful for controlling areas that are blown out without causing serious damage to other areas of the shot.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Project size doubling unnecessarily - 17 years agoYour DVD is double the size because you used double the media, even if it's the same, you inserted it twice. John's on the button on how to handle re-use of media efficiently.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Video Bitrate Too High when preparing subtitles in build - 17 years agoTo save yourself some time troubleshooting, pay attention to what the log is telling you: 33 VTSs and 33 Titles will be created... That would seem to be faster than all the fooling around your dealing with now.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Sales guys are evil. - 17 years agoOne suggestion is to figure out how you want to accomplish this for one question. Then create a separate track for each question. That would make it easier to keep track of the steps you want to follow for the questions. Trying to put them all on one track could be nightmarish to sort out. I've done things sorta like that in the past. John Foley is right that this could get ugly fast. There aby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: HDV Image Shudder - 17 years agoThe AIFF audio may be your biggest culprit. Before re-encoding the video, try converting the audio to AC3 and see if that makes the problem go away. That alone will drop your total bit rate down a lot.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Renaming Chapter markers - 17 years agoThe chapter naming in DVDSP is primarily for your benefit to make programming your DVD easier. I'm unaware of anything in typical DVD files that would hold onto the chapter names for display on any type of player.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: no sound on an mpg file when imported into fcp!?! why!! - 17 years agoThe MPEG file may have the audio encoded as AC3.by Bob Rice - Café LA Re: Restarting Disc goes right to wrong track - Please help - 17 years agoYou also have the option of disabling the Stop button. Just select the menu in DVDSP, then click on the buttons you want to disable in the User Operations inspector.by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Menu Background Disappears - 17 years agoHey Bandstan, it seems as what you're missing is background! (I couldn't resist.) While you intend this to be a still menu, you might have clicked something on the menu inspector that makes it think you want motion. I'm not at my Mac right now (I'm about 2000 miles away), so I can't tell you the exact settings. Connect a standard DVD player to a standard DVD recorder (they're available for about 70 bucks). Record those portions of the sample DVD(s) you want to highlight on your reel. Then use Streamclip to extract the exact clips and samples you want from the new DVD. (I told you this was inelegant!!)by Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: Anybody know about Invalid pointer error? - 17 years agoBirdman, you could be getting the error for any of many reasons. Here are some things you can check. - Be certain there are no chapter markers at the end of the track. It's possible (has happened to me a few times) and will always fail. - If you're using subtitles, be sure no subtitles cross the boundaries of any chapter marker. - The problem might be the last item that DVDSP trieby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: burning issue.... - 17 years agoDenney, I scanned Jake's article, and it appears to be a different issue. In your case, your burner doesn't seem to care much for the disk you inserted. Perhaps the disk is flawed in some way or might be a format (+R vs. -R) that your burner doesn't support. This is an error message that sometimes comes up when the disk is inserted before the burner is ready for it. Not sure why, but I get consistently better results when using double-size graphics. I'm not sure of the distortion you're referring to. If by that you mean blurry, resolution or format may be your issue. Some people swear by TIFF as the only way to go. For me, I get identical (and clean) results regardless whether using TIFF or JPEG. Whicheverby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: subtitles problem - 17 years agoRomain, DVDSP has an oddity I've never quite figured out. It seems that when you use subtitles, each one remains displayed until replaced by another one. That behavior does not occur in Simulator, but always seems to happen on any other player. The solution (aka sick workaround) is to place an additional subtitle at the end of each set (meaning after the final subtitle of each slide). Insteadby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro Re: recording screen capture to camcorder - 17 years agoWill, you said that you're sending the video out to a projector. Here are a few things you can try. Each of these suggestions assumes your camcorder can accept A/V input (many lower-end camcorders do not). - If your source is already on a DVD, simply put it into a standard DVD player, and send the players output to the camcorder via the RCA outputs. - If your computer has an S-video oby Bob Rice - DVD Studio Pro |
