Re: better wave forms in timeline - 14 years agoCool trick. i have been razoring out only necessary spaces for timing, graphic sync, etc. Your tip should give more starting points. quick off subject question. don't wince.... do you think there will ever be a windows version of fcp? i ask because as a freelance editor, i work for a lot of people with old avid systems, who are looking to update. problem is, they are usually one room in a largby Moonface - FCP Feature Requests Re: better wave forms in timeline - 14 years agoit's not so much that they draw slowly as they do not draw at all.i am used to usung the viewer to see the waveforms, but that doesn't help when comparing 2 tracks on the timeline- let's say 1 english and one spanish. besides, i thought this was a forum for suggested improvements in future versions- a great idea in my book- gathering ideas from those who use the product every day. mikeyby Moonface - FCP Feature Requests better wave forms in timeline - 14 years agoin a project with several, let's say 6, tracks of audio, the waveform display in the timeline is very poor- frequently blank. i have asked in various forums about this before- i guess it is a known bug. there are work arounds, but they are time consuming and annoying. i do a lot of english to other language translations. it sure would be nice to see the waveforms so i can spend more time syncingby Moonface - FCP Feature Requests Re: Turning off / Viewing Layers - 14 years agoI do like the clip enable/disable trick. It is a nifty work-around, as is the double click to load the clip into the viewer. But they are still just that- work-arounds. They work, but are clumsy. Renders are still lost- yes i know they come back with some undoing, but the temporarily unrendered clips don't playback smoothly, making it difficult to place things precisely. I still think turning offby Moonface - FCP Feature Requests Turning off / Viewing Layers - 14 years agoI am a freelance editor and use both fcp and avid systems. in general, i prefer fcp. however, one thing i can do in the avid that i have not been able to figure out in fcp is this: let's say there are 5 video tracks, all rendered. if i want to see what is happening on one of the lower layers in the avid, i just turn off the higher layers and it shows me what is below. if i try this in fcp, i getby Moonface - FCP Feature Requests all transitions between in and out points - 15 years agoThere is a feature in Avid that goes something like "add this effect to all transitions between in and out points". That is handy. Mikeyby Moonface - FCP Feature Requests Re: missing content - 14 years agoActually, I had not tried this yet. And it worked swell, actually. Thanks an actual heap. Mikeyby Moonface - Motion Re: is there a livetype forum around? - 14 years agoI, for one, am sorry to see LiveType fall away. Yes, I know Motion does way cooler things, but for simpler tasks, LiveType is fast and easy. Plus, in the world of corporate video wherein I dwell, there is a lot of revising and updating of old, and I mean several years old, programs that were made using LiveType, and it sure is simple to revise an old file as opposed to creating a new one to justby Moonface - Motion Re: missing content - 14 years agoNaw, the search field is empty. The frustrating part is I can see the missing files on the hard drive. I can't find a way to relink. I am trying to avoid a reinstall and all that lost time, but will do so if necessary. Maybe if I click my heels 3 times and ask real nice they will come back. Everything else from the transfer is working swell. Mikeyby Moonface - Motion missing content - 14 years agoSome of the items in the Motion Library have gone disconnected. Folders like Content, Shapes, Gradients, Particle Emitters show 0 items. I checked on the hard drive they appear to be lurking there. That is to say i see them in the motion folder, in the library, in places like Content>Lines (I am looking for arrows). They are not grayed back. I have looked through the help pages, and they guideby Moonface - Motion English language code error message = no burn - 14 years agoBurning a DVD in DVDSP 4.2.1 as I have been doing for years. Got an error message "Language codes for 'English' and 'English-2' must differ". I have never seen this before. Ever seen it? Know what is to be done to correct. 2 clues- I just upgraded to a Mac Pro Quad Core. During setup, I imported all my stuff from the old G5 it replaced. Everything else has been working fine. This isby Moonface - DVD Studio Pro Re: HD timeline to DV tape - 15 years agoYes, timeline = sequence. And Shane's advice above worked very well. Since I had a lot of sequences to record to several tapes (umpteen variations on a :30 spot) I created a second project as NTSC DV and imported the quicktime movies there, just so I wouldn't have to keep switching settings. Mikeyby Moonface - Café LA Re: HD timeline to DV tape - 15 years agoThat may have done the trick! It clicked magically into place when I opened a new project and used easy set up to create good old fashioned DV NTSC. Brining the movie into that project cleared away all the mess I probably created in experimenting with all the previous and various formats. Thanks, and nice pic, by the way.... Mikeyby Moonface - Café LA Re: HD timeline to DV tape - 15 years agoThanks. I shall give it another try. I'll report back..... miKeyby Moonface - Café LA HD timeline to DV tape - 15 years agoAlright I give up. How does one take an HD timeline (DVCPRO HD 720p 30) and output to DV tape, in my case via a Sony DSR-11? Everything is 29.97 frames- no frame rate mixing. I have tried pasting the HD timeline on to a DV NTSC timeline, rendering quicktime movies with assorted settings from DV to Pro Res 422 to DVCPRO HD via the timeline and compressor. I have tried every angle I can think of anby Moonface - Café LA Re: Mixing frame rates - 15 years agoI hope to never deal with frame rate conversions again, but I don't control the camera people. I like the idea of using After Effects. I will try that next. And thanks for the correction in web based thinking. Mikeyby Moonface - Café LA Re: Mixing frame rates - 15 years agoI tried conforming the frame rates with compressor. At the best quality settings, there was some improvement, but not a whole lot. The faulty motion shows up most significantly on panning and steadicam shots, which, sadly for this case, the program is full of. Oh, well, we have learned our lesson- lock the frame rate in stone for the project. And triple check each day of shooting. That being sby Moonface - Café LA Mixing frame rates - 15 years agoI am working on a project that was shot both DVC PRO HD 720p 30 and DVC PROHD 720p 24. I am using a 720p 30 timeline for 2 reasons- there is more 30 footage, and the graphic movies are also 30. The 24 frame footage looks a bit 'staggery' like the frames are of, well, methinks, because they are. Is there a trick for improving the motion on 24 frame clips in a 30 frame timeline, or perhaps a settiby Moonface - Café LA Re: HD monitoring - 15 years agoyeah, the mxo is a bit pricey until i get more hd work- i do a lot of industrial stuff. a lot of my clients are still switching from vhs > dvd...that being said, and my not being much on the technical side of editing, please explain DVI, if you don't mind. Mikeyby Moonface - Café LA HD monitoring - 15 years agoLooking for options to monitor HD output to external flat panel screen. I don't need perfect color correction type precision. More of a good looking client monitor is the need. I have looked at the Matrox MXO- nice but maybe a bit pricey until I get more HD work, and the Black Magic Intensity, which rumor has will not work on my G5. I am running Studio 2. Other options/opinions? Thanks, Mikby Moonface - Café LA |
