Everything fills the 16:9 screen. So what do yo guys do? Full 4:3, letterbox or 16:9?by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: OT: Implied Rights on Infomercials - Usage - 13 years agoIf you use your talent as a business you will always have a clear agreement. Employees work for hire. That is what makes the difference in price. Corporate clients understand that you get what you pay for. If you are not clear you will do a lot of work for free.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA New Broadcast work around - 13 years agoHow are you guys handling the formats for Spot Advertising? As you all know most station still broadcast in SD. Some of the viewers have 4:3 tvs and some 16:9 tvs. I have seen all kind of different approaches to this dilemma. Some producers go for letterbox, but when viewed on a 16:9 stretched it looks really bad. Some go full 4:3, but on a 16:9 stretched everybody looks fat. I love the image but the 24f HDV codec is terrible. Se if you have the timeline set to Drop Frame or not.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Multiclip Editing Advice for Eight Camera Shoot - 13 years agoMy friend you fail to plan and now you a have a huge mess on your hands. Your biggest problem is frame rate and then format. I think that you mention having DV so I would convert everything to DV at 60i. It is not going to be pretty, but you would be able to multiclip edit.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Digital Output for DVD Authouring - 14 years agoIf this is what they told you, "get us the quicktimes and we'll take care of getting it on DVD" That is what you give them. You don't have to compress for DVD. They are handling that. Just do Export QuickTime > Select Make Movie Self Contain. Half an hour of DV/DVCPRO is about 7 GB, so if that was your editing TL it should fit on a Dual Layer DVD Data for delivery of the QT file.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: HDV Capture/input issue - 14 years agoAlso make sure that the camera is set to drop frame. I had the same problem until I notice that the factory setting was non-drop frame.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Weird BlackMagic card audio issues - 14 years agoI had that happen to me before. Do an uninstall and then reinstall the drivers like Ben said. That did it for me.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Sliding clips less than a frame: one of several problems - 14 years agoMost likely it was recorded in the QT format, so you get separate clips of 2 or 4 GBs. If you put the clips on a timeline together and then export a QT not self contained and re import it as one clip it should work.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Capturing HDV w/naughty timecode - The Horror - 14 years agoWhat you are seeing a Canon firewire capture problem. First of all in order to capture FW 24f you need at least FCP 5.1 or later. I have had that problem every time I use my Canon A1 and capture through FW. Even at 60i. You actually lose a few seconds of footage. I have tried capturing through Component and that works as long as you don't have FW camera control. I may still lose a frame or twoby Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Compressor Issue - 14 years agoDon't waste anymore time with work around. Re-install compressor and qmaster. That was the only thing that worked for me.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Why I would want to shoot in a different frame rate? - 14 years agoLike someone told you before don't mix frame rates. If you have to mix Z1 with HX A1 @24 f and or 7D @ 24p the best way is to convert the A1 and 7D to 60i before editing. I have the FX1 that is similar to the Z1 and I shoot a lot at the fake 30 that looks ok. I also own the Canon A1 and when I mix them I shoot both 60i to avoid all the extra processing and different looks in one video. I hate when that happens. At best you will recover the clip, but it is a pain. Just play the clip as you record. I have the HVX so I don't know how you would do it on the 500by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Blu-Ray - Matrox Compress HD - BDR-203 - 14 years agoYes, I have burned a few with Toast 9.x. The quality is good but it doesn't have dvdsp authoring capabilities. I actually use more the regular DVDs to burn BD for anything less that 45 mins. What eSATA card do you have? Let me know how it works for you.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Blu-Ray - Matrox Compress HD - BDR-203 - 14 years agoI am still on FC6 so I don't have Share. I use the Pioneer 203 in a box with USB2 and eSATA connections. I haven't been able to connected through eSATA with my Sonnet E4P card and with USB2 it is very slow. It actually burns regular DVDs slower than 2X. I bought it from Videoguys and they send me a new box and burner and still no improvement.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Setting up Raid Drives for FCP usage - 14 years agostrypes Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > if I have a Sonnet E4P > > I checked the card. And since we are talking about RAIDs. I have 2- 10 drives boxes with port multipliers. What do I need to do to convert them to either RAID 5 or 6?by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Setting up Raid Drives for FCP usage - 14 years agoYou need RAID 5 card to do that, Don't you?by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: choosind the right camera - 14 years agoI truly believe that I own the best camera for the price and for the work I do. I never have a reason to use QuickTime other than to open a downloaded movie. I have just notice that QT has a Share option in it. I thought that Share was a new option on the new FCS3? Was it always on QT?by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: multicam - 14 years agoIf you rendered it already you won't be able to sync your viewer. It shouldn't be like that way but that is what happens. You can always dump your renderings and you could see it again. You just have to re render at the end.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: using a white background for compositing - 14 years agoI partially agree if it is not full body. If you need to get full body with pure white with no shadows then you need to overexpose by at least 2 f-stops (reflected measuring) wish results in a halo of light around the actor. This is even more evident with light color hair and cloth. One thing is for sure, It is a lot less work to do it on a white cyc. This is just me playing around my newlyby Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: using a white background for compositing - 14 years agoBetter still tell thee director that a white background is done with color background (green or blue mainly) White is the stream (layer) used to make it look like if it was shot on a white cyc only with better results. Even if you didn't have to add other images that is how you do it best. Otherwise you have to deal with over exposure around the model.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA Re: Final Cut Studio 3 may have price me out of using it. - 14 years agoYou can still edit SVCHD files on a G5. You need Toast 9 or 10 to convert to PRORES first and you're back in business. You should edit AVCHD after conversion even if you had a top of the line MAC.by Douglas Villalba - Café LA |
