Re: Smart Reporter HDD monitor - 13 years agoNo need to buy anything - Disk Utility can display the SMART status of the drive. But in my experience, SMART can be hit and miss. The problems you are experiencing may not necessarily be a physical issue with the drive; they could be an issue with the file system on the drive. It's worth giving DiskWarrior a try to see what it comes up with:by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: FCP media management question (the mega AVID2FCP post) - 13 years agostrypes Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And speaking of which, does anyone know if the > Preference Manager is supported on Tiger/FCP 6? > > *Edit* Nevermind. Whenever this happens, I click on one of the menu items to highlight it and then run my mouse back and forth. This redraws the menu items and normally fixes the problem. Does this work for you?by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Accidentally Deleted a Custom Setting - 13 years agoThe first time you launch Preference Manager, it will create a backup of all your preferences and custom settings. So if you've ever run Preference Manager on that system, this is likely to be the only backup you have.by Jon Chappell - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: FCP 6 with ATI Radeon 9800 and Quartz Extreme - 13 years agoDid you bump your machine around at all? Sometimes if a computer is bumped the cards inside can become unseated and this can cause strange things to happen. The solution is to take the cards out and put them back in again.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Reinstalling Individual Programs from FCS (3) package - 13 years agoThis will do the trick: But be aware that in most cases a reinstall is overkill.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Operation Not Allowed screen When attempting to delete clips from timeline - 13 years agoA 14 MB project produced a 276 MB XML file? It's best not to perform heavy effects on long-GOP footage such as XDCAM, H.264, MPEG-2, HDV, etc. I would advise taking the original footage, converting it to ProRes in Compressor and then reapplying the green screen effect to it.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Crashes - 13 years agoIt looks to me like you have a very complex project. What is the file size of your project file? It also looks like you have a lot of HDV clips that you're putting effects onto. This can bring Final Cut Pro quite easily to its knees. If the issue is what I suspect it to be, you can get rid of the crashes by reducing the complexity of your project (perhaps by creating a "lite" versionby Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Crashes - 13 years agoCan you post one (or more) of the crash logs here? It's impossible to say what it could be without seeing them. How did you install Snow Leopard originally? If you just installed it over the top of an existing Leopard installation with Final Cut Studio, this is a bad way to do it. Also, it's best to remove Final Cut Studio and reinstall it rather than simply reinstall over the top.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Recommendation for Compression card for web, not capture card. - 13 years agoShane Ross Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You are on a G5. The very last G5s had PCIe.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Compressor Processing for DVDs - 13 years agoYes, because Compressor's MPEG-2 encoding is much better than DVD Studio Pro's and you have access to more options.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Networking issues with Tiger and Snow Leopard - 13 years agoPerhaps you should report this to Apple: (requires a free developer account)by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Compressor Processing for DVDs - 13 years agoIt's not something I need very often in my workflow, so I don't use it frequently. Here's what has fixed it for other people: * Moving the /Library/Application Support/ProApps/SharedA folder (if you have one) to another location. * Installing Rosetta manually from the Snow Leopard DVD. * Reinstalling OS X, selecting Custom Install and checkby Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: Installed a new compressor card now FCP crashes - 14 years agoMight be worth asking in Matrox's forum:by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: FCP not opening on some user logins. - 14 years agolisai Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I shall see if I can find one. No, it's just a warning, it shouldn't be a problem. Mine has that message too. That's not a crash log though - it's just console ouby Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: FCP not opening on some user logins. - 14 years agoAre these issues limited to FCS3 or do they affect the FCS1 machines as well? It's worth noting that FCS1 is not supported on Snow Leopard, and if you are running FCP 5.0.x it's not supported on Intel computers either. If you can post one of the crash logs here, I can take a look at it.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: ProRes (Proxy) in Power PC - 14 years agoLeopard is actually supported on G5s, it's Snow Leopard that isn't. You'll have to compare the value there with the value from another project where you know the version number.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: OT: March 24 lafcpug meeting maybe the last one - 14 years agoThat's good to hear. That's the thing - all NLEs have their quirks and if you understand the quirks and the established workarounds, you'll be fine in any situation.by Jon Chappell - Café LA Re: ACE Blog Slams FCP - 14 years agoI can tell you that, judging from the crash logs I get from Crash Analyzer, the majority of FCP crashes are caused by user error, specifically workflow issues. A common one is piling loads of filters on top of H.264 footage in the timeline - not a recipe for success.by Jon Chappell - Café LA |
