Re: FCP Render Times - Creating shared computing - 14 years agoI had that problem several times when using mixed formats in the same sequence. Now, I just take everything in the browser and do a batch export as pro res. I bring in the exported pro res clips, dump the originals and now I can work with them without those long HDV conforming issues. Of course, I make sure that my new sequence settings are correctly set for pro res. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Accessing Metadata - 14 years agoDean, So are you saying that the cards these AVCHD cams utilize, do not record metadata? If not, that explains it, but if they do, there must be a way then to access it. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Proper lighting - 14 years agoSince most of my work is either underwater or on safari where lighting is a whole different ballgame, I am now stuck with a lighting issue for a short film I have been asked to shoot using the producer's cam which is a Sony A1-U HDV . There will be two main locations, one is a dark alley shot at night and the other will be inside in a dimly lit room, lots of candles. I am concerned just how to liby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Accessing Metadata - 14 years agoYou're right, they are AVCHD which is inter rather than intra. He was hoping that the metadata would be accessible.by Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Accessing Metadata - 14 years agoSorry, I should have been more specific. He was actually asking the same question for 2 different cams the Sony XR520 and the Canon S10. He is in the business of making housings for underwater use and wanted to know how to access the metadata Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Accessing Metadata - 14 years agoJust received a question from a reader that I don't know the answer to. He wants to know how, when using an AVC inter based cam,(he's using a Sony 520) he can access the metadata off the cams card. His reasoning is that when he is reviewing test footage, he wants to know what his exposure settings were and other info the card might contain. I have no idea how this is done since I do not use one oby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: DivX 6.0 SDv_AVI Files - 15 years agoI've never used this codec at all and was surprised they sent so much on a CD. Will have to give them a call tomorrow. Thanks for responding. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: DivX 6.0 SDv_AVI Files - 15 years agoCommand/I only says that it is DivX 6.0...tried opening the clip in Mpeg Streamclip but that was a no go also and just produced a white screen with no audio. They list as 4:3 720x480 but when copied off the CD onto the desktop, I only get a black screen with the audio in the back. Is there a way to convert these so I get a regular QT file for editing purposes? Since they are AVI, I have a feeling he just made audio files and maybe there isn't any video though he probably thby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: For Sale: Sony EVC-100 - 15 years agoThe deck has been sold. Thank you- Steveby Steve Douglas - lafcpug Market Re: OT: Panasonic HDC-SD100 - 15 years agoThat was really my whole question. Other than knowing that the Panny HDC-SD100 was an Inter based AVC cam, I was not sure how easy it would be to edit in FC with it. I was simply trying to get its workflow for use with FC. Thanks for those who responded. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: OT: Panasonic HDC-SD100 - 15 years agoI did that first, however, the search came up with nothing which is why I asked here regarding this specific cam. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA OT: Panasonic HDC-SD100 - 15 years agoA friend asked me about this cam and I know little about it. I believe it is an AVC Inter framed cam and assume that the footage shot with it would be able to be edited with FC in a 1920x1080i sequence. Any opinions? Thanks, Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Dropped Frames - 15 years agoSorry, I meant 'Repair Disc' for the 500gig internal drive which has now 85 gigs available. The footage and sequence preset is Pro Res. I'm using a newly installed MXO2 with the A/V settings reset to MXO2-1080i 59.94 YUV 8 bit. The sequence setting is set at pro res 422 as well. Not sure why the AJA speed test showed so slow. I wonder if reformating really would help. Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Dropped Frames - 15 years agoI just did that and, while I wish I could add it here as an attachment, it says I can write at 48.3mb and read at 47.4. I conducted it on my 500gig internal hd which is where the media files are stored. Could the problem possibly be that the settings are for 1920x1080 10 bit with the MXO2 and perhaps I should lower it to the 8 bit setting? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Dropped Frames - 15 years agoWell, I dumped over 30 gigs to another hard drive leaving 85.5 gigs available yet it is still not playing through the sequence. Permissions repair didn't effect anything. Maybe, even though it is a 500 gig internal drive(not the boot drive) and the capacity is 465.5 gigs, the 35 gig dump wasn't enough? What do you think? Steveby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: Dropped Frames - 15 years agoThanks, hope you are right. I've always been conscious not to fill my drives too much but didn't do the math on this one. I am at 90% and will transfer some stuff over to other drives. Hope this does it and will let you know manana. Format Mac OS Extended(Journaled) I repair permissions very regularly and have not had a problem with it. Actually, I don't know the speed of it. It was the way it was. Before I actually could ingest as Pro Res, I would log and capture my HDV footage in HDV and then do a batch export as pro res and import the results from that into a Pro Res sequence. I would then dump all the HDV files as who needs duplicates of the same thing or has that much extra room on their hard driby Steve Douglas - Café LA Re: this ain't right surely.......! - 15 years agoJeff, You have me a bit confused at this "The thing you need to remember is that you should not digitize all your material as ProRes". For my last two projects I have worked in a Pro Res 422 sequence and rendering always went fine......that is unless I brought in other clips that were not pro res clips and forgot to convert them. It is not the easiest of tests but, if you have studied, you should not have problems finishing and passing within the time alloted. I don't really believe that the certification carries huge weight in the industry but, for some, that you are certified might be a deciding factor. Steveby Steve Douglas - Jobs Re: Conforming - 16 years agoI'm really stuck with this one. I created a new project using easy set up, HDV 1080i 60, dumped an HDV 1440x1080i clip on it and it looked and played well. The clip, of course, matched the sequence settings. I added a simple glow filter and hit command/R. No render window but another 'Conforming HDV' window appeared which, when done, rendered out the filter. I guess the reason I've asked is that even though I have been working with HDV sequences for awhile, this is the first time I have seen this particular message come up. Perhaps it is because I am working with different formats, HDV and SD, in the same sequence. Could that be it? Steve ps. Okay, it took a long while but it finished conforming.
