Re: my AVI files are crapping out on me.. help - 18 years agoPlugins that might help you play AVI (which is just a container so may have any number of formats) - DivX, 3ivX, Flip4Mac, Quicktime by itself (obviously not in this case). When you open the file in Quicktime use File/Show Movie Info to see what codec might be inside the avi. Also use WMP9Mac and use File/Get Info. If you have a PC use File/Properties. In the last 2 weeks I've had UPS, FedEx, USPS ALL screw up deliveries to this office. For me, being able to media manage offline projects is major. I'll avoid too much redundency since you've read the posts, but it would really be a lot less painful if one could place the order at a local Apple store and then swap the disks when they arrive. The mail delivery where I amby craig seeman - Café LA Re: Final Cut Studio 5.1 and You PPC Too - 18 years agoI agree with Graeme. People keep bringing up the $49 as if it were the only issue. It's the time to pack the disks. The cost to ship them with a trackable number. The fact that one is without the master disks for that time . . . which may be more than a week. Philip Hodgetts posted this on FCP-L. I think being able to media manage offline clips is a big one for me. There are others that might be significant to HDV users (and P2/HVX users). Another for a Multiclip audio issue. One for Past Attributes and subclips. NOT happy that I have to mail in my disks and pay $49 for that. That's not the beef or tofu. It's a $49 charge which for the vast majority of us is simply a bug fix. It could be just be the cost of shipping. It's sending in your master discs. Flip4Mac doesn't play WMV Screen or Image codec yet either. If it is MS MPEG4v1, download the codec that plays it in Quicktime (of course one may one the codec anyway BUT MS MPEG4v1 is relatively rare these days and I'm not sure if the codec will create conflicts).by craig seeman - Café LA Re: convert wmv to mov with flip4mac - 18 years agoThere's several old Microsoft formats that were called MPEG which preceeded WMV7. Here's WMP9Mac You might need Stuffit to install it but that might still have been part of Panther. It's not included with Tiger though. Flip4Mac plays Microsoft MPEG-4v3 and MS MPEG-4v2. The $29 Import/Player Pro can convert WMV to MOV (changes the wrapper so there's no recompression loss) or allows you to edit the WMV directly in FCP. If you're going out to "video" (DV for example) I usually do the upconvert in QT Pro since it'll make editing easier. It's NOT like doing an insert over a "basic." Switching tape speed (DV-DVCAM) can cause playback problems. You can run into problems though if the camera sees a minDV speed signal and jumps to DVCAM speed signal (or visa versa).
