- "Moviola Metaphysics: Why we do what we do, why it's important, and how we can do it better." - Walter Murch

About Walter Murch
Walter Murch has been editing picture and mixing sound in Hollywood since starting on Francis Ford Coppola’s film The Rain People (1969). He co-wrote, sound-edited and mixed George Lucas’s THX-1138 (1971), and then supervised the sound editing on The Godfather (1972), sound-edited and mixed American Graffiti (1973) and The Godfather: Part II (1974), got his first Academy Award nomination and won a double BAFTA for picture editing and mixing The Conversation (1974), won his first Oscar for Apocalypse Now (1979), and an unprecedented double Oscar for sound and film editing for his work on The English Patient (1996). He reconstructed Touch of Evil (1958) to Orson Welles’ original notes, and edited and mixed The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), K-19 (2002), Cold Mountain (2003), and Jarhead (2005). In 2013 he edited and mixed Mark Levinson’s feature documentary Particle Fever on the search for the elusive Higgs boson. His latest film is Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, released in May of 2015. Mr. Murch was, along with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola, a founding member of northern California cinema. Mr. Murch has written and directed – Return to Oz (1985) — but as an editor and sound designer he is one of the few universally acknowledged masters in his field. For his work on the film Apocalypse Now (1979), Walter coined the term “sound designer”, created the now-standard 5.1 sound mixing format, and along with colleagues such as Ben Burtt, helped to elevate the art and impact of film sound to a new level.

- Blackmagic Design presents "Temple" - Nguyen-Anh Nguyen
Temple is a concept short film for a science fiction cyberpunk thriller, helmed by the team behind The Akira Project, a crowd-sourced, live-action trailer based on the manga AKIRA. It garnered more than three million views online and received accolades worldwide.

About Nguyen-Anh Nguyen
Director and producer, Nguyen-Anh Nguyen, is now represented by 3 Arts Entertainment and has developed TEMPLE as his first long form project, incorporating everything he loves; dystopian science fiction, cyborgs and martial arts with a touch of manga. Supported by a talented global production crew, the short film is a proof of concept for the financing of the feature film.

Based in Montreal, Anh offers a unique look behind the scenes on his latest production, discussing some of the challenges of shooting an ambitious 4K production on such a small budget, and why he chose to shoot on Blackmagic Design’s digital film cameras, and post in DaVinci Resolve Studio and Fusion Studio.

Film Synopsis - By 2085, ocean levels have risen to a point that entire coastal cities and islands have been submerged. On an island megalopolis, a genetic virus and cybernetic beings are threatening the survival of its population. Oz, a health services employee, must find a way to survive amidst the swelling chaos.

Stop-Motion filmmaking. Analog Storytelling in a Digital World. - Mascha Halberstad
Presentation description coming soon

About Mascha Halberstad
Mascha is a successful Dutch filmmaker, who has specialized in narrative stop-motion filmmaking. In her work she tries to stay "as analog as possible". In today's modern world, she manages to use classic techniques to create beautiful imagery that has incredible warmth to it. This, in no small part, because of the sheer amount of dedication that goes into the creation of these works of art and because she has a particular sense of storytelling. This also lead to several filmmakers asking her to contribute animated sequences to their live action films.
When Liam Howlett (leading man behind The Prodigy) happened to see her short animated film "Munya In Me" on TV (here's a trailer for that film, he asked his record label to find out who made that beautiful film. He then contacted Mascha, and asked her to create the music video for their track "Wild Frontier", which was released worldwide earlier this year: You can watch Wild Frontier - The Prodigy HERE . She currently has two feature-length animation projects in development.
