6:45- 7:15PM - Stump the Gurus
Join FCP Gurus Andrew
Balis, Larry Jordanand
Philip Hodgetts as they will attempt to answer all of
your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS.
If they can't solve your problem or answer your How 2, then you
go home with a problem but you still got out of the house, so
that's not a bad thing.
7:20PM - 7:35PM - "10 Things
You Probably Don't Know About Final Cut Pro."- Larry Jordan
Larry
Jordan returns to lafcpug
and this month teaches us 10 Things
You Probably Don't Know About Final Cut Pro. Or depending on your knowledge, maybe 9 things.
7:40PM - 8:05PM - Cool Stuff from
Blackmagic Design- Matt Stoneking
The brand new soon to be
shipping Video
Recorder/D.264 encoder from BlackMagic Design will make it's
LA debut. Matt Stoneking from Blackmagic Design will demo and

products including the Broadcast
VideoHub and the HDLink
Pro
8:10PM - 8:35PM - Focus Enhancements
- Portable FS-5 DTE Recorder - Robert Caldeira
Defining a new class of DTE recording,
the FS-5
Portable DTE Recorder weighs only twelve ounces, brings Direct
To Edit® recording technology to your HDV or DV handheld
camcorder, and enables you to add custom metadata while you're
recording. And that is about the least this thing will do. I
saw a demo of the FS-5 at NAB and was blown away. Senior Product
Manager for Media Management and Conversion will demo.
8:35PM - 9:00PM
- Break
GMAX
will be in the lobby showing off their storage solutions. Lots
of other stuff will be showing off too. The break is a chance to hang out and meet and
greet and get your problems solved. Lots of FCP Gurus come to
lafcpug meetings and this is your chance to network and make
contacts and get your problems solved. Snacks
and Beer and Wine will be on sale in the lobby. Proceeds go to
the Gallery Theater.
9:00PM - 9:35PM - The Craft of Editing
- Norman Hollyn
It isn't enough to just know the tool. Anyone can learn Non Linear
Editing tools. But can one learn the craft of editing? Can one
be taught how to edit? Most editors when asked the question,
"How do you edit" generally reply with the answer,
"I dunno. I just uh, do it. When it feels right I make the
cut." Then there are the editors who can articulate the
craft of editing. Norman
Hollyn is one of few editors
who can do just that.
He is a long-time film, television and
music editor (HEATHERS, THE COTTON CLUB, SOPHIE'S CHOICE, Oliver
Stone's WILD PALMS), and is Associate Professor and Head of the
Editing Track at the University of Southern California's School
of Cinematic Arts. He is an author of nearly 100 articles and
his book, THE FILM EDITING ROOM HANDBOOK, has been internationally
translated. His new book, THE LEAN FORWARD MOMENT, comes out
from Peachpit Press/Pearson in December. lafcpug is honored to
have him take the time to teach us a bit of what we need to know
9:35PM - 9:45PM - Brian Denny- Show
and Tell
From Brian:
I'd like to show and tell one
of the jobs I finished recently for a company called Spyder.
They make high speed ski suits for downhill
racing. This video uses a bunch of interviews that I shot in
one long day, along with stock footage cuts from Getty images
and a whole bunch of other sports video production companies.
