I just got a new G5 and the new PPE video cards don't work with final cut 4. Do I have to upgrade to 5 just to make it work?

In reality - YES! That would be the correct way to deal with the change from AGP to PCIExpress. Sure you can jury rig the code but you might want to ask around what eles it can cause!
