picture but no sound

Hi
I'm new to this site.
My G4 with Mac Os 9.2 version 1 FCP which I bought in 2000 has suddenly stopped capturing sound. I can get picture when I capture from my camera but no sound. I can still capture sound from CD. This has just happened as it was working okay last week. Everything appears the same as before but the sound refuses to play when I play back anything I capture.
I know its impossible to say without seeing my machine but has anybody got any ideas?

You haven't given us enough information. What's the capture device? What are your Capture and Device Control Presets? Have you done a restart, relaunch, FireWire cable check? Does your camera playback sound and is there sound on the tape? What's the problem footage? Have you tried older tapes that you did capture sound successfully from, as a hardware/settings test?

Connect speakers to the deck and NEVER the Mac. Also monitor video from the deck as well. View Menu>External Video>All Frames.
