dsr1500???

hey, im reading on the forum here that there are firewire issues with the sony dsr1500 deck. but all those posts are 3 to 4 years old.

does anyone here have any experience with the dsr1500 and the newer (2 year old or newer) G5's???

i just picked one up on ebay loaded with every possible option - analog, sdi, firewire for what i think was a song ($2550)

We have several DSR-1500a's. (Not sure what the "a" stands for... newer model?) We've been using them for digitizing/up rezzing of material (via firewire) to our g-5's and have had no problems.

Me, too.

1500A and dual 2 GHz G5 play nicely together.

If the 1500A could only pipe down, life would be great! The fan noise from that bad boy makes me want to install a proper machine room!

do either of you ever use the SDI out of the deck to a capture card for uncompressed work?

I have not used the SDI out...sorry!

I have used the SDI out, and it works fine. However, please realize that this doesn NOT make the output uncompressed. It is still recorded and played as DV compressed video. All the SDI output does is transcode the COMPRESSED video to a new data rate to make it compatable with SDI based system.

im not certian about that... the guy didnt know how to check and i havent used one before so i couldnt give him instructions...

i am though picking it up in person and was told that im welcome to put it through its paces before accepting it.
