You could try that, but it's not going to work. Tapes only blur in one direction--side to side. They also reduce the color sharpness **way** more than the luminance--and that only happens side to side, too. That's what gives tapes that VHS "look."
I know nobody here has ever seen one of these, but porn tapes that have been dubbed a million times also have color offset. The people are over *here*, but the fleshtones--lots of fleshtones--are over *there.*
I know the spells to do that in effects programs, but it would take days to get the look right which puts me square into the "record it on tape" camp. If it still looks too good, use a regular VHS machine. If it still looks too good, use regular VHS tape on an SVHS machine.
