DSR 20 DECK PROBLEM?

I am a FCP 5.1 editor with Sony DSR-20 DVCAM deck that just started to give me a problem today.

80 percent of the time I load the tape and hear it spool up but there is no time code on the counter nor any picture-just black. No time code come thought to final cu however I do have control of the deck though through my keyboard.

10 percent of the time it will load up and I will see picture but 4 thick black bars run horizontally though the screen.

10 percent of the time it will work for 10 minutes before losing time code and goes back to the above problem.

Has anyone had this problem? I am wondering if any knows how serious or not serious it is?

Sounds like you have a head clog. If you have a "head cleaning" tape, run it. If not, take it in for service.

Thanks Mark. I tried a cleaner tape and no luck...so in the shop it went. I hope that is all it is.
