got my FCS2 upgrade box today

Just got my parcel 5 mins ago. I'm at work so i won't be opening it till i get home.
I was told by apple to expect it on the 4th of June, then i got an email last night to say it would come tomorrow. It did.

My Upgrade that I ordered on AppleStore-Sweden April 16 will be sent from Apple Cork, Ireland in the next 24h (I phoned and asked) on my AppleStore status-page it still says shipping May 31 and delivery June 4.
Now I have to wait for my tracking number and wait to the beginning of next week....

Those were the dates I was given on an order placed on May 4th. Until yesterday when I got an email to say it had shipped and guess what turned up today:

Mine arrived this morning, as promissed, direct from Apple.

As a newcomer to the MAC, can someone advise me if it is necessary to remove FCP5.1 from the computer before installing the latesr version or does the u/g simply overwrite the existing installation?

If its an upgrade it will do just that. So dont remove anything and make sure previous version in in your applications folder and you did not re-name it. Then just follow instructions. Read the read me.

It may not be necessary but experience tells me that it would be better to load the entire suite of applications fresh on a new MacOS X.9 volume. I would rather sugest that you clone the volume you have with 5.1 onto another disk and then start fresh on your internal boot volume.

I have seen real problems loading a new version of FCP over an older version, so take this as a suggestion.

The last time I ordered something from Apple, they notified me it shipped by email a few hours after it had already arrived - my FCP 5.0.x to 5.1 disks.

I must be Apple's Rodney Dangerfield.

I am LAUGHING at the moment. IMMEDIATELY after I post this I get an email from Apple saying its shipped and will arrive Monday. My post shows 3:59PM and the email was actually sent 3:57PM.

I had checked minutes before I posted above and the Apple site said May 31 ship. I suspected that was wrong but it's clear they send the emails before they update the order info online.

In my case the status says it will ship July 9th (ordered April 24th).
I hope it's not true as it were with some of you.

I think that you have to wait extra for the german translation of the manuals.
Here in Sweden we get the english version.

You will probably get it in a few days, the swedish AppleStore now says shipping in 24h on both new and upgrades as all european orders are sent from the same place Apples office in Cork, Ireland.

My own orders status still says shipping May 31, but when I talked with AppleStore yesterday I was promised shipping in 24h.

My Amazon order still says June 13.

Drat! What do I do?? I usually never like being the first kid ont he block with new technology, but with my recent work in HD, I feel confident that I need and want this upgrade asap.

Buying from Apple seems fastest. But you will learn more if you are patient and wait a few weeks. I'm waiting and have ordered from Amazon in the lafcpug Store. I like saving a few bucks anyway.

I cancelled my Amazonian order and placed new with Apple. I now have a FedEX tracking number and due date of Weds.

It shipped from PA ! Long ways from Cupertino.


I hope I'm not paying a lot for books I can't read in the recessed lighting of my edit suite in the dim glow of my monitors, with the Apple design standard of small grey type.

It just arrived! About 24 hours after ordering!!

I picked 2-3 day shipping and got it next day in Venice/Culver City from PA.


LOTS of heavy books.

Finally got mine today as well, after another call - really good response time, called yesterday afternoon and recieved it this morning in Germany from Cork Ireland. Wow the world gets smaller .)
