MultiCam WorkFlowPosted by Rui Barros
Hi,
I'm logging footage from 4 sources, the mix, cam 1, cam 2 and cam 3, for a Multicam Edit. The tapes have the same timecode so i'm only logging the mix and then duplicate the 3 others. The problem with this method is that i can not change the reel name after, because once one is changed, the others cams will follow. On Avid this simple, a simple "unlink" will do it but in FCP no way. I hope that i'm wrong... So what i usually do is, select all the files on the bins and export them as a batch list. Open them in Excel, change the reel name and them save as a "excel".txt. Probably there is a simple way to do this in FCP. i'm not sure there is, Rui.
i even tried copying the offline clips into a new project to change the reel# there, (hoping that would break a master/affiliate relationship) but even then he original changed along with them. i suspect if you capture the 1st tape, THEN maybe copy into a new project you might be able to Make Offline, then change the reel# but i've done the Batch List trick myself in the past. nick
yes, and it doesnt work
true a simple angle ID would do the trick. i like to place those at the head of the clip name, so i can see them quickly in the timeline, even if i'm zoomed out a bit
fro more than a few clips, i think the excel route is better than one-by-one. you could modify the names in excel, too. nick
My assistant used to have to do this most days. This is was the quickest way to do it:
- Log angle 1 as normal - Change tape and reel number - Option-Drag the angle 1 TC from the Media Start column in the Browser to the Mark In TC in the Log and Capture window - Do the same for the Media End TC - Press Log Clip Saves retyping the TC manually. Martin, do you know if you actually have to drag each timecode separately? Whenever I need a dupe of a logged entrie, I just drag the whole clip into the Log and Capture window and the timecodes would come with. Wouldn't it be easier to just log the first clip, drag it back into Log and Capture, then change the reel number and relog?

Derek, you're absolutely right. An even quicker way to do it.
