ARCHIVING PROJECT

ARCHIVING PROJECT

Good Day

My project began on ten drives. I'm trying to archive it on one external drive.

I've got it all done, with the exception of this issue: How do I know if any files are on my internal hard drive?

Is taking the external drive to a new computer the only way?

Or is there a way to 'turn off' my internal hard drive when opening the project?

I suspect not but thought I would ask.

Thanks so much
SA

Go to your media bin inside FCP. ctrl-click and choose "show item in finder". The filepath will show where your files reside.

I tried your suggestion and I have two questions:

1 - when control clicking on a file in the media bin it did NOT give me the option to "show item in finder." Did I do something wrong??

2 - the media is 'media managed' from a two hour timeline - hundreds upon hundreds of files - assuming I can get the control click to 'show item in finder," would I have to select each file one at a time, or could I do entire folders at once?

Thanks

Or do a search for the name of your system drive in the source column.

Click in the Browser
Apple-F
Choose "Source" from the pull down menu called "any column"
enter the name of your system drive in the blank.
and, most importantly, hit "Find All" (not "Find Next"winking smiley to get a window view of all the files that reside on your system drive.
Hopefully you will not get any results but if you do you can use the above suggestions to track down the files and move them.

Hi Andrew, that's a pretty good hack. A lot of folks tend to forget some files to their system drives when moving the project to a new location. That should do the trick for them.

Sorry Stephen, it is "reveal in Finder" not "show in Finder" as I suggested

Mr. Nasty,

How is using the search function a hack?

I think it's called a feature, little used, but a feature nonetheless. I use it all the time, but apparently I am one of a few.

A "hack" would be getting FCPv6 to reconnect files properly after moving them or not generating sudden jumps in project size for no reason.
