Still no full screen playback... time to trash the preferences?

So I've been wrestling with a sudden lack of full-screen playback. All the idiot checking steps haven't helped, and I'm stuck with frozen video on my full-screen playback and normal audio playback.


Is this the kind of thing that preference-trashing might clear up? And the FAQ has a link to preference trashing for FCP 5, is the process similiar for FCP 6?

Are you sure you have the setting correct under View-External view in the menu's? That is the most common mistake.

You could try trashing prefs but that might not be the problem here.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure that I do... When "external frames - view all" is selected, I get a full-screen view of the frame that the playhead is parked on, but the video won't roll when I play.

Doesn't matter if I select "view - digital cinema desktop display" or "full screen" or "raw", it all gives the same result. The thread that started the troubleshooting is here:

SO trashing the preferences won't do much of anything? The problem started when I hooked up a camera to my Mac Pro, and then removed the camera and tried to switch back to my usual configuration.

Trashing prefs should work unless there is something else here we are missing.
