exporting changes audio levels

I am exporting a small mpeg4 movie to email producers and something strange started happening today. When I export fcp changes the audio level on two of the clips. It either jacks one of the levels way up or cranks the other way down.

Do I need to trash my preferences or is something else the matter?

what is the format of the audio on the timeline? You may try doing an audio mixdown (option apple r) or trashing preferences or both. See if that helps.
