According to Apple Support "Audio filter information cannot be exported in OMF files. "

[support.apple.com]

Does this mean the filter effects won't come through or just a notation of which filters and settings have been used?

The filter itself. Because whatever other system you are exporting for will not have that filter. not ProTools, not Avid...not Logic. And since FCP cannot IMPORT OMF, there is no reason to include that filter.

What you need to do is take notes as to what you want the audio to sound like at specific points and give those notes to your sound mixer.

Also, export a low res version of the movie which they can fall back on in case their imagination isn't as willing.

And it doesn't even need to be that low-res -- you can compress the image to make the file smaller if need be, but you can make the audio 48kHz 16-bit.

Generally I think anything you can do in Final Cut, real sound designers can do better and with more options somewhere else. I've only ever had one case where the sound designer couldn't nail a particularly tricky music edit and we had to export the audio from the timeline for him. But if you really need to preserve your rough mix somehow, you could export individual tracks as AIFFs or WAVs, depending on how long your show is.

The suggestion of Derek is THE way to go when you export OMF to sound mixers.

I use quicktime conversion ( droping a TC reader filter in the video ) : H.264 - 320x240 QVGA - medium or a bit lower quality - one pass and set the audio as derek wrote above.

The quality of the video doesnt have to be really good since its only a reference but the sound should be as sharp as possible.
