Apple recomends Virus software for OSXPosted by Jay Beeson 1
Hi All
I have not been on the form for awhile so I dont know if this is Old news to you guys-- Jay click here to read
Tempest in a teapot. Apple says "here are some third-party programs, presented without endorsement," and suddenly it's "the sky is falling!"
Wake me when there's an actual Mac OS X virus in the wild. (Anything that requires you to manually type in your password before it runs does not count.)
My wife owns an art gallery and we have approximately seven PC's. After I set up her network I DID NOT install any virus protection. About a year later she hired a system admin to come in to check her network after a power outage fried the Ethernet switch.
The guy couldn't believe that we had no virus protection and ran some diagnostics convinced that he would find tons of problems. The report came back clean. I have a post facility which has more than 8 macs and 5 PC's with no virus protection and not a single attack or problem. Of coarse I'm also not going to tell anyone where it is...
As always keep eyes and ears open and be aware. All computers could be infected at anytime so far Macs have a very strong immune system.
Stay informed but at the same time don't freak out over any reports of Mac virus'. ------------------------ Dean "When I see you floating down the gutter I'll give you a bottle of wine." Captain Beefheart, Trout Mask Replica.
Well, here's the deal.
And this is the truth about how I can suddenly afford to buy your land. A few weeks ago I received this very nice email from Nigeria which said that a distant relative of mine had died and left me $20,000,000. If you guys and I can scrape up the cash - like a down payment of maybe $2000 to help pay the Nigerian lawyers, we all stand to make a buck. No? I have already sent $15,000 and they sound like really nice reputable people. Harry Harry Bromley-Davenport.
