FCP to Color codecPosted by Luie
This might be a question for the Color forum but im sending from FCP so IDK.
So i am working on 3 sequences Its the same show, same editor same codec ect. Sequence 2 and 3 are fine I send to color / grade and it allows me to choose render as same codec DVCPRO HD 60p But sequence 1 does not give me that option only ProRes and uncompressed codecs I need and want to render sequence 1 as same codec source Any ideas on whats going on? I dont feel ive done anything differently. How can i force it to let me render as same source or let me force it to render as DVCProHD 60P Thank you.
1st check your Seq 1 settings to see if it's correctly set up vs. your Seq. 2 & 3 and see what's diff if anything. Then, as far as I know Color doesn't like exporting to DVCPRO HD anyway and as it states in the Color manual on page 100:
The codecs most suitable for mastering include Apple Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, Apple Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, Apple ProRes 422, and Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codecs.
Color may be a little touchy on DvcproHD. Double check your rendered frame size.

Well, our colorist used Color and rendered back as DVCPRO HD....so the option is there. I never used color so I have narry a clue.

I've used Color w/DVCPro HD 6 or 7 times w/o a problem and I know editors on other boards that are 100% DVCPro HD and they've never had a problem either. There's probably something else amiss in your timeline. Mixed media or mixed frame rate snuck in there perhaps? Sometimes, for me, the Send to Color command is flakey and I get better results exporting an XML from FCP.

Walter Biscardi from the Cow ran a few tests on this, I think most of the issues with DvcproHD has been fixed with the current updates, I'm not that current yet, so I can't check.
