imac crashing with fcp5

I'm not sure yet whether this is a software or hardware problem. It started with streaky artifacts in the player windows of FCP and is now leading to frequent crashes. This only seems to happen when I'm playing video - in FCP but not QT or DVD player. A year ago I had the logic board replaced in this four month old imac 24" (2.8 Ghz 2gb mem). The symptoms are now similar again though the computer has not yet gone dead as it did before - just too frequent crashing. I gather from various forums that this is a known problem with the imac - but... Any thoughts before I lug the thing back to my Mac dealer? I do have Applecare but the effort of returning it... they should pay us the costs of this. Could it just be FCP (5) and not the machine? Unlikely, but just maybe??? Thanks in advance, Chris R

First thing is to make sure the canvas window is set to fit to window or smaller. See if that makes a difference. Also trash your preferences for the heck of it.
