Delivering Red footage shot as 16:9 as 4:3 with letterbox
January 18, 2010 05:29PM
HI,

This is more of a "what would you do?" question.

I'm working on a spot this weekend shot in 16:9 on the RED. The client wants the final output to be on BetaSP 29.97 4:3 with a letter box.

The sound will be mixed from 2 tracks to mono and added to both tracks on the Beta tape.

I will most likely be keeping the project in the ProRes (HQ) format throughout.

Any good tips on how to do this or where I might find that information?

Thanks,
Rachel

Get an HD Capture card. Connect it to your computer. Use the interface to convert the footage from HD to SD on output. Output.

You need a capture card, and most come with instructions on how to do this. And each do things differently.

If this is your first RED gig, get all the relevant software (Red Alert, Red Rushes) from the RED site, get Clipfinder (Not Snow Leopard ready) as well. Transcode RED files to ProresHQ and do a basic HD finish. You can ingest via Log and Transfer but I prefer the Clipfinder method myself, fewer
restrictions to worry about.

Edit.

Downconvert as per Shane's instructions.
