I am using a Sony HVR-HD1000u Camera to copy tape to My mac pro, I have the correct firewire 800 cable 9pin to 4pin, I hooked everything up opened my final cut and tried capturing the footage from the tape but it is not doing anything, and i do not know if my final cut is recognizing the device. Im very new at this sort of thing, could someone please help me.

What did you shoot? HDV or SD?

What is your 'Easy Set up' set to?

What is your camera set to output? HDV or down convert on the fly to DV?

When you open Log and Capture - at the bottom of the window, does it say 'No communication'? That means you've got one of the above things wrong.

Best case scenario.
You shot HDV
You have the camera set to output HDV
You have the easy setup in FCP set to the correct type of HDV (whatever you shot)
You have them connected via firewire, the camera in VCR mode, and the camera turned on before opening FCP.

Also, I'm not positive which version of FCP started handling HDV. Pretty sure 5 was fine, but not positive.

If I am not mistaken FCP 5.0 will not work properly on an Intel Machine.
You need the cross grade version which is 5.1
