Edits do not take-Bizarre

Hi all: Ever have this happen. You open your project, make several changes in an existing timeline then go on to other edits, only to find that the first two edit changes popped back to where they were? nd have this happen four times? Each time I made the changes, I saved the project, moved on to other edits (all of which were fine), but when I came back to the original two changes, they were back to where I started. In 15 years of editing on FCP I have never had this happen. Even heard of something like this?

average of 300GB left on each 1TB harddrive

This happens from time to time in any NLE, especially when you work faster than your system can queue the events. I SAVE, then quit, reboot fresh into RAM to see if that reveals your edits. If it does, work more deliberately.

If not, trash/restore FCP prefs. Digital Rebellion carries a great utility for this, Preference Manager.
