Color correction in FCP - Post-Production

Posted by Ishmael
Hi there,
We shot one scene of our movie - in indoors - and somehow did set up neither the white balance nor the indoor lighting for the scene and the scene compared to the rest of the movie came out quite redish. We used Canon XL2 24 p with film grain. Is there anyway to remediate this color (red-ish) problem in Final Cut Pro? Would appreciate for all the help.
Thanks,
Ishmael.

Bring out the three way color corrector and start banging away. It's an amazing tool in the hands of one who knows how to use it. Can you fix all the problems? No. But if the information is there you can fix it up pretty darn well.

Make sure you use a calibrated NTSC monitor too...

Oddly enough, I don't completely agree with you. While I think owning one of these things is a grand idea under any circumstances, Ishmeal isn't doing absolute color correction. He's doing relative correction--one scene must be made to match all the others. That's a great deal easier to do and you don't need a surgically correct monitor to do it, either.

If all the other scenes in the show are more or less correct, you may be able to use some shortcuts. See those eye dropper tools in the three-way color corrector? If you know for a fact that some pieces of the scene are neutral, you can use the white, gray and black eyedroppers to **force** that part to be neutral. If the talent is wearing a gray sweater, fore example, you're in gold.

That can save a bunch of hand work.

there's a tool in the FCP colour corector that will help to match hues between 2 scenes.
and guess what...it's called "Match Hue".

and here's an article on it...
