Is there a way to change the track names? For instance if I want my first track to say, "Dialogue" instead of "A1".

I'm using FCP 4.5.

No, but it's a good feature request.

All the best,

I also would like to color code my tracks (like I can with an Avid) so that I can easily know what is where:

A1-Yellow: Narration
A2 & A3-Salmon: SOT
A3 - A6-Green: Sound Effects
A7 & A8-Blue: Music.

Yeah I actually tried that earlier too and realized that isn't possible either.

here's what i do when i really need a track label:

put in a minute or 2 minutes worth of text at the front of each track.
rename each one in item properties (apple 9) to reflect the track name.

they've gotta be big anough so you can read the whole word when you;re zoomed you all the way.

of course you can label your tracks in Soundtrack PRo
