Qmaster2Posted by stirfry
I know FCP 5 and DVDSP 4 come with Qmaster2 network rendering/ distributed computing software, but I cant seem to find any apple documentation stating how or if this works with these programs. Obviously it works with shake, but I'm not worried about that. I want to know if I upgrade to the new Final Cut Studio, will I be able to use Qmaster2 at all?
Thanks michael. Just for those who are interested, from what I have read, 2 or more computers can be connected via a network (ethernet, fiber Optic, or otherwise) can be used as a cluster to render jobs created through Compressor2. This would work for FCP 5 jobs or DVDSP 4 jobs. Why apple is not advertising this new, very exciting timesaver is completely beyond me. It is the single biggest factor for me upgrading! My render times are going to be cut in half. Without this function, I would still be happily using FCP 4.5. It's very odd that they are keeping it a secret. Could it be that the program is still very buggy to the point of non-function? I just cannot understand why this is not getting more publicity?
Thank God Apple makes stuff just for lil' ol' me! LOL.
QMaster 2 works absolutely great, and stirfry's right, it's a very cool feature. At last month's SF Cutters meeting, we had Thomas Luerhsen of Apple demo it's functionality for us. I also got to test Qmaster on a 10 seat Xsan. It's pretty awesome seeing 10 G5's churning out your MPEG 2 files at blistering speed. Directions are included in the software documentation, so no worries there. Have fun hooking up mom and junior's macs for your evil purposes. ;-) Kevin Monahan
