Best HDs for G5 2.7GH

I need to upgrade my 250HD to a higher capacity HD having 2 slots and the difference of price btw 300GBs to 400GBS are issues so I would probably go with 2x300s
i need suggestions on how to do this and suggestion as far as what brands make the best HDs for this machine (dual 2.7 - 2 gig of ram)

I have been told that western digitals are one of the worst drives. I also had bad experience with them a few years a go as one of them crashed on my pc.
how are segates, i can get them for 160 shipped

Seagates are nice drives.

Actually Western Digital drives were poor over 10 years ago but I have been using WD drives for the last 5 years with narry a hickup. Out of three Seagate drives I have purchased - one has had an early failure.

Just stay away from Maxtor on Macintosh systems.

I got a dual 2.7 last month. I added on a Hitachi 400GB drive I bought from ZipZoomFly.com. At the time they had the best price and I had seen others mention them as a source for hard drives. The HD arrived that same week in perfect condition and works flawlessly.

any problems with the Hitachi 400 and running FCP? I'm having frame drop problems and attributing it to maybe the Maxtor 250 that came with the system (I've tried all other user controlled fixes with no luck)

No issues at all yet. I'm using the 250GB that came with the computer as my system drive. That's where everything is installed and where project files are saved. The 400GB Hitachi is a media drive only. That's where everything is captured to and the storage for all rendered files, thumbnails, etc. Never capture to (or render to) the system drive or the drive that FCP runs from or the drive that your project file is saved to.
