So MacPro preceding 2009 (2 years) ago is not compatible without getting a new GPU.

It cost me $250 to move from 2600 to 5770, much less expensive than buying a new computer. Ironically Apple doesn't support the 5770 on MacPro preceding mid 2010.
So how do you get the media onto your iPad then?

Or bring it into iTunes and sync it I suppose.

It also would be fun to work on an 24" iPad with Thunderbolt attached to a 10 TB RAID

The way Apple manage the crisis tells a lot. Steve Jobs wanna sell devices. Better start learn premiere soon.
Currently, one easy way is to do the encoding in QT X. Then you can drag the qt into iTunes. I don't think iTunes does video compression.
