Best format to import for 16:9 DVD

Hi,

My timeline in FCP is DVCPro HD / 1280 x720 / 60 fps. I export a self-contained QT movie at same settings. All is well.

I import into SP. I want to make a standard DVD at 16:9 rather than 4:3, to retain the widescreen effect. (Rather than convert file to letterboxed 4:3)

I find the right settings in SP etc., the DVD has the correct look (widescreen), but the picture quality is quite poor. (My regular mini-DV footage 720 x 480 DVDs look much sharper.)

I'm guessing the problem is SP converting that HD 1280 x 720 to MPEG 2 / 720 x 480 widescreen.

I should probably compress that HD QT movie into 720 x 480 (16:9) before bringing it into SP. I can't figure out the right settings though.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

PC
