fade in fade out-whole composition

i have a layered piece ( or in after effects terms - composition) that i would like to fade in and fade out on globaly at the beginning and the end.

simple. i hope.

if i were in AE i would pre-comp and do the fades on that by just adjusting the beg/end opacity. is there a quick way to do global fades?

Fade in/out behavior on first & then cut then paste onto the rest?

Put everything into a master layer and add the fade-in/fade-out behavior to the layer.

If you don't like the look of the master fade (it still fades objects individually before compositing them so you can see through them as they fade), the put a Levels filter on the master layer and keyframe it.

In Motion 2.0, if you change the blend mode of the layer to anything other than the default "Combine" (like for example, Normal), the opacity works on the entire layer instead of the individual objects contained within.

something simple that i've used when i've had lots of layers is to just add a black matte layer on top and fade that out in the beginning and back in at the end.

Now that i know about the not "comnbine" trick i'll prob use that more often now
