I have a sponsor who delivered a 16:9 video in a Quicktime-PAL 720x540 4:3 Anamorphic file. ...it appears as letterboxed 16:9 when displayed in 4:3, however appears stretched when displayed in 16:9, so is it really anamorphic? ...the problem is I can't import a PAL file into my NTSC DVDSP project and I can't convert straight to DV 720x480 in Compressorby Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Menu button issues! - 13 years agoI'm trying to get back to the main menu when the movie is playing and having no success. Once my "Target" starts playing regardless of whether it is the main menu or special feature or a chapter point, you're committed, there's no way to go back to the main menu! This seems like an easy fix, but I'm missing it. Obviously I need to check a box somewhere, but I can't find it or myby Carpboy - DVD Studio Pro Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoLOL!!!! The fact that you even know what Noodling is just won you huge respect!!!!!by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoYes I am Don. Carpboy is a handle I picked up in college after shooting a bowfishing video based on a guy whose parents were killed by evil flesh-sucking carp! Which in retrospect I would say is absolutely the stupidest thing on Earth, however with "Piranha 3-D" set to hit theatres, I guess I should've pitched my flesh-sucking carp idea sooner.by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoThanks Jeff, I really appreciate that last post. I am actually a big fan of Sony Prosumer Cameras. Normally, I am my only client, the films are mine. However I do have a 7-day shoot coming up next week, my first project for hire. That's a little daunting, considering recent troubles. Yesterday and today have been a b!+(#, I'm exhausted, but I think a margarita in my near future willby Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoSorry Derek, it was already 2 hours in when you chastised me. I will do a snippet from now on. I admit, I have not used my rendering time wisley. However, I will take all of your advise to heart, Thank you for your contributions. I know as an industry professional it's frustrating to know that Noob's are out there struggling with trite BS, but I'm still low on the learning curve for allby Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoD-Mac, thank you for your post. No I understand, everyone has been tanning my hide about HDV, but it's affordable, and I'm comfortable with the Sony Pro-sumer cameras, so it's hard to break from my comfort zone. Another reason I have not graduated to "tapeless workflow". Though there is hope as I'm flirting with the idea of tapeless AVCHD for my next film. I'm a one man show, anby Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoAs I've said before, delivering a Master has always been the problem. I have diligently tried to do everything I have been told on this board from the time I built the computer, to how I should edit, and now I've got a finished project that looks great on the computer, but I can't do anything with it. It sounds like I need a new authoring agent who is Mac-based and can handle the big Pro-Rby Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoOkay, First off, thank you all for your responses. This is the most frustrating part of the whole process for me, I always struggle to get the finished project off the computer and I just can't seem to ever do it right. I've got $30,000 wrapped up in this film and a year of my life and I just keep banging my head against a wall trying to deliver to a Master. so let me try to fill in someby Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agodropped the SD version per your template back into FCP and watched on external HD monitor. Yikes!!!!! I have got to be doing something wrong, all these renders to SD look atrocious.by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoThe guy barely speaks english, so sometimes I don't know what he's saying even when I'm watching him say it! His first request was Quicktime file or an SD-DVD! That's all he said. Then this last go around he asked for MPEG-2. I know he's PC-based and I cant remember the software, I had never heard of it, or I didn't understand what he said.by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoThanks Andy! I only have one computer. Am I missing something????by Carpboy - Café LA Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoTrue 'nuff. I was too intimidated to shoot 24P, because I had never done it.by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoD-Mac, Just dropped your template in, will take 3 1/2 hours to see the results. The last SD is hard to judge as I'm watching it on porgressive monitors and the combing is horrendous.by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoThanks boydmcc, but there's no more money. This $6000 Mac has to start paying for itself.by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: Mastering issues. - 13 years agoOkay, I'm on the Mac now, I've got the download. Thanks for your help, I'll let the current file finish and then try a down-res with your template. Can you expand, cut and paste????by Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoLOL!!! Qmaster Cluster? I have no idea what that is.by Carpboy - Café LA Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoDerek, I agree, but sometimes there's no going back, I'm on a deadline and pretty well screwed. Jeff, Thank you, it's getting clearer. So I'm dropping a Pro-Res master into compressor and using Apple Pro-Res 422 and under "geometry" I am resizing to 720x480 and as for pixel aspect, I am confused. Should I be going with NTSC CCIR 601/DV (16:9), like Compressor "Help"by Carpboy - Café LA Mastering issues. - 13 years agoDual 2.26 Quad-core Intel Xenon, 16 GB Ram, too much memory, Matrox MXO2 Mini I have a thread in the Cafe about my trials and tribulations of exporting a Master for my authoring agent. I have to deliver a quicktime file of manageable size to my authoring agent for a DVD Master. My authoring agent is PC based(not my fault). Currently, I have a self-contained QT file in HDV 1440x1080 60iby Carpboy - Compressor - Media Compression and Conversion Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoYeah that QT conversion to DV NTSC was total garbage, pixellated, corrupted garbage. Mistake #7033. Pro-Res SD???? I don't see that as an option in Compressor. I have a HDV-QT version on the desktop at 23GB's, a Pro-Res (HQ) version at 175GB's and a Pro-Res version at 100GB's. They all look great. But I have so many options in Compressor and they all end up looking like crap. And I doby Carpboy - Café LA Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoMy apologies gentleman, I've only recently come out of the Stone Age, going from FCP 2 to 7 and if that weren't bad enough, I shot on 2 formats and had stock footage in a 3rd. So it's a lot to swallow since my last SD feature. Currently the computer is exporting a Pro-Res 422 version, has taken about 4 hours should be about 100GB's. I was considering copying the Pro-Res version to a harby Carpboy - Café LA Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoMistake #7032. The Pro-res(HQ) file is 176 GB's. LOL!!! ...So much for the 32GB flash drive idea.by Carpboy - Café LA Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoRight again Shane! I thought I had exported in Pro-Res, but I had not. It was HDV and the Authoring Agent couldn't read the file, so now my project's going to lose 4 days. Now re-exporting in Pro-Res 422(HQ) ...should be done in about 2 1/2 hours. Would compressor have done the job faster if I simply dropped my 22GB HDV-QT file into it and converted to Pro-Res?by Carpboy - Café LA Re: exporting a Master difficulties - 13 years agoOkay, the 32 GB flash-drive is reformatted and is currently copying my 23 GB file. only 2 hours to go.by Carpboy - Café LA |
