Only issue now is smeary subtitles, ones which were meant to be mandatory, always on-screen, and which were generated in FCP. Is it recommended to subtitle in DVDSP?by unamalatesta - DVD Studio Pro Re: out of sync in DVDSP! - 16 years agoOops, I meant to ask: Does anyone have a droplet, or any advice on the settings in Compressor for the smoothest HD>SD conversions, and/or any idea why this sync issue would arise? Many thanks.by unamalatesta - DVD Studio Pro out of sync in DVDSP! - 16 years agoI have a short piece (13 mins) which originated in DVCPRO HD 720p. It's beautiful varicam ftg. I needed to make an SD DVD, so I used Compressor to convert the DVCPRO HD 720p file into an 8-bit anamorphic SD clip. This looks gorgeous, a perfect conversion of the 24p HD ftg into SD space. From there, I ran two tests: 1) Importing the naked SD file into DVDSP, it looked pretty good, but theby unamalatesta - DVD Studio Pro Re: Sound out of sync - 16 years agoWhat was the solution? I'm having a similar experience, trying to get this DVD out ASAP. I'm working in DVCPRO HD in FCP. Workflow: Export DVCPRO HD 720p QT > import into FCP> export in Compressor, creating an 8-bit anamorphic SD conversion > export in Compressor, creating .m2v + AC3 + aiff. When I bring these into DVDSP, the video looks very nice, clean and smooth. The RAID's been backed up!by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: emergency -- Internal RAID disappeared - 16 years agoThanks, Mike. Will try this last option.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: emergency -- Internal RAID disappeared - 16 years agoThe system drive is fine. When I'm in disk utilities, it sees the RAID, which is called "Storage," it sees it fine, it just won't bring it up. It does state something about an "exit" issue, which ostensibly was born from the problematic shut down. I'm down, man... hurting. Thanks.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: emergency -- Internal RAID disappeared - 16 years agoIt's a RAID 0 (Zero), Koz.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: emergency -- Internal RAID disappeared - 16 years agoOkay, I've tried everything I know at this point. I've also powered down and re-seated the drives, all to no avail. On to Disk Warrior. Thanks, Adam.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: emergency -- Internal RAID disappeared - 16 years agoUnfortunately, it's not working. I'm worried. Does anyone think Disk Warrior might have a utility to take help here? I don't have it but I can buy it online if it's got a potential solution. Thanks.by unamalatesta - Café LA emergency -- Internal RAID disappeared - 16 years agoI've been cutting away on this show for months. Today I worked about 4 hours on it fine, no issues. One of the producers flies in, we're sitting here, I render one nest in a master sequence, everything's fine, I save, I render the nest in the seq and I get a freeze. I wait and wait with no change. Now I'm compelled to force quit. I do. But it will not let me restart the machine, it keptby unamalatesta - Café LA MediaPressX vs Compressor - 17 years agoI'm wanting to have great looking DVCPRO HD and HDV 24p material output to SD. Do I have to go to a post house and use something like MediaPressX or can I do it with Compressor alone & have something comparable to the high end encoders? Thanks.by unamalatesta - Café LA Graeme, Graeme guru man, Sony 24p question... - 17 years agoGraeme, This terse open query is being shuttled out in the hopes that you can rescue one of us yet again... have you worked with the Sony V1U and devised an elegant workflow? I've been shooting in the 24pA mode and have left a thread here about it at this forum. As you once said to me, "I'm more concerned about getting good output..." That's my quandary. I've talked about myby unamalatesta - Café LA Re: outputting DVCPRO HD to SD DVD - 17 years agoThanks, Andrew. Well, I've actually got two pieces: one project/piece being the HDV 24p(A ); the other proj/piece is DVCPRO HD, something shot on the Varicam at 23.98. I captured the the Sony ftg as 1080i in FCP. I went into the capture scratch & opened each clip in CT, and performed the 2:3 removal, which produced a new .rev clip. I brought those into FCP on the AIC timeline and edby unamalatesta - Café LA outputting DVCPRO HD to SD DVD - 17 years agoI tried posting this on the DVDSP forum last week and got no bites. Can anyone offer any advice? Original post: I'm trying to create a smooth-looking SD version of a piece I produced with the Sony HDV 24p (in Adanced mode). I used Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown before cutting in FCP, on Apple's Intermediate Codec. It looks fantastic in FCP. I used Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown before cutting in FCP, on Apple's Intermediate Codec. It looks fantastic in FCP. It doesn't matter if Kubrick toyed slightly with intervallic relationships, proposed some oddball harmonization, he wouldn't have gotten away with performance rights, publishing, etc. On that note. I cut a show last year that included a pound of footage shot of Elvis in Memphby unamalatesta - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD audio issue - SOLVED - 17 years agoThanks for the help folks. It's actually a case of the update-flipped-my-script blues. Bringing the show from fcp 4.5 > 5.1.3 flipped my mic channels; it went from my boom to my lav. I thought I checked this thoroughly when brought up my other audio tracks on isolated clips last night, but I was apparently in a rush because, today's a different story. It's all back, big, proud and stroby unamalatesta - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD audio issue - bizzare update - 17 years agoI was just going through another section of the piece and there's a section of noise, what sounds like a scaped lav, which was never there before. I've pulled up all four channels and it's across all of them. Help!by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD audio issue - 17 years agoTim, I didn't delete the proj file on the old machine. I did, however, update the media. I'll try the audio export but worried about QT backwards compatability. Monitoring is the same on both, Nick. This is wild.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD audio issue - 17 years agoThanks, Shane, and I know, I know. But that show was on an extremely slow machine, taking an incredibly long time, with the faster setup feet away. The piece is actually graduating from the promo stage and the show proper is being cut on the Intel. I'm perplexed over this audio oddity. Is there a successful way to take the show backwards, back to 4.5 if I cannot resolve the audio issue?by unamalatesta - Café LA DVCPRO HD audio issue - 17 years agoI updated an fcp 4.5, DVCPRO HD project to 5.1.3. Before all my camera (Varicam) audio sounded rich and robust and now it sounds a little dim & dry. Proj originated fcp 4.5, G5, then brought up on an Intel Mac Pro, dual core, fcp 5.1.3. I appreciate any help.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: HDV A24p -- anyone using the HVR-V1U? - 17 years agoIn the 24pA mode, I have seen some smearing. I will post more after I've worked out the solution of getting it cleanly into FCP. Perhaps I'll post it the piece when it's all sewn up; I think the client intends to.by unamalatesta - Café LA HDV A24p -- anyone using the HVR-V1U? - 17 years agoI've been playing with an HVR-V1U. The footage was shot in the 24A mode, and I'm trying to find a successful capture method. I've checked the FCP manual, googled, searched the FAQ here, recent postings, and experiemented a bunch, but cannot seem to find a decent solution. The footage is 1080i 24p A(dvanced). Sony doesn't seem to have much info on capturing, as it relates to NLEs, except tby unamalatesta - Café LA Re: 5.1.2 crashing on renders - 17 years agoOkay. There appears to have been some illegal color issues with that still. Called up my original file, changed back to RGB (had mistakened acquired an embedded profile from Silverfast). That solved that. Thanks, Derek, Ben, Jude, Nick and Michael.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: 5.1.2 crashing on renders - 17 years agoHi, Ben. Thanks for asking (and for all the attempts from everyone to solve this). Well, I tried opening a new project, pasted in the problematic clips (one a still, the other a 10-bit clip), and the same thing, with the OOM. For my deadline, which was a DVD for preview, I removed those nasty bits and brought-in versions of those same areas from my offline quicktime reference version ofby unamalatesta - Café LA Re: 5.1.2 crashing on renders - 17 years agoMan, that seems crazy at this point. Just about everything, I'm talking huge renders are finished, and it's just these last little guys left.by unamalatesta - Café LA Re: 5.1.2 crashing on renders - tried more - 17 years agoOkay, I checked my QT bits at /library/QuickTime and there's only 15 things showing up. The only foreigners are: DecktopVideoOut Flip4Mac WMV Export Flip4Mac WMV Import I dragged the Flip4Mac stuff to the desktop, restarted FCP and the same probelm reared it's ugly head. Damn. Is there anything else? Thanks, Mike.by unamalatesta - Café LA |
